Let this reach the stiff necked girlies 🥲 but really it worked for me. But also keep in mind this is just 2 peoples experience going for the first time ever!! Right now I consider acupuncture as supplemental but not as my main medical health treatment
My initial post shared how acupuncture was a total game-changer for my boyfriend and me when we both suffered from excruciating pulled neck muscles. But let's be real, before that, I was a huge skeptic. I mean, tiny needles? For pain? It sounded almost too simple, or maybe just too 'out there' for me. My turning point actually came from witnessing my cousin's bedridden dog get acupuncture and then literally walk again – that visual stuck with me! When my neck locked up, and my boyfriend's was stuck at an odd angle, I remembered that miracle and decided it was worth a shot, especially after a friend raved about the Soho Acupuncture Center. For those of you who, like me, are curious but a bit hesitant, let me walk you through what our first session was like, specifically for that agonizing neck pain. First, we had a quick chat with the practitioner, who asked about our symptoms, lifestyle, and even our energy levels – a very different approach from a typical doctor's visit! They explained the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in simple terms, focusing on energy blockages causing the pain. For our pulled muscle issues, they pinpointed areas on our back, shoulders, and even hands and feet that corresponded to our neck. Then came the needles! Honestly, it was far less intimidating than I imagined. The needles are super fine, and most of the time, I barely felt them. Occasionally, there was a dull ache or a slight tingling sensation when a point was activated, which the acupuncturist called 'De Qi' – a good sign that the energy was moving. We lay there for about 20-30 minutes, just relaxing. It felt incredibly peaceful, almost like a forced meditation. When they removed the needles, there was no pain, just a profound sense of release. My boyfriend, who was initially more skeptical than me, literally sat up and could move his neck freely! My 7/10 pain dropped to a mere 2/10, and within a few days, both of us were 100% back to normal. Based on my experience, acupuncture isn't just for acute injuries like our pulled muscle. I've since learned it can be incredibly effective for various types of neck pain, including chronic stiffness, tension headaches stemming from the neck, and even stress-related stiffness. It's about restoring balance. While I still consider it supplemental to conventional medicine, especially for serious conditions, for musculoskeletal issues and general well-being, it's something I won't 'sleep on' anymore. If you're considering trying it for your own neck pain, my advice is to do your research, just like I did. Look for a licensed and reputable practitioner. Don't be afraid to ask questions about their approach and what to expect. And remember, everyone's body is different, so what worked for us in just one session for acute pulled muscle pain might take a few sessions for chronic issues. But trust me, giving it a try might just be the revelation you need for lasting neck pain relief!

Yeeeesss! Acupuncture really works, in Western Medicine a version of this is dry needling. I’ve had both done at different times in my life and it was great. It helped alleviate pain right away and the Physical Therapist gave me some exercises to do to keep the pain at bay.
