Every review just feels like a love letter to Ali Hazelwood at this point.
I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see how many drop-ins we get from the main characters of other AH novels (didn't realize this was part of an interconnected standalone series).
I'll start by saying that age-gap romance isn't my favorite type of romance. It really isn't even close to the top of my favorite tropes. However, this is the only age gap romance I've been able to get past and actually enjoy. Maya and Conor's story didn't give me the same obsession-level love I felt for some of her other novel's (looking at you, The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain). But gosh it was so enjoyable, and I ate this book up so quickly. The setting is gorgeous, the stakes are low, and you get to really, REALLY focus on these two characters and their slow burn.
In her best fashion, Ali wrote another man who pined, although it was a different type of pining than I'm used to. I think age-gap (legal, I have to specify that I am absolutely NOT referring to age-gap with minors) romance is meant to be forbidden, but sometimes it falls a little short of truly forbidden for me since I read so much fantasy, where forbidden usually means someone's going to die. However, something about Conor's personality made this romance SO much more enticing than a typical age-gap love story. Probably because he actually showed a lot of restraint when it was so unnecessary.
