Me vs Unfinished Series
I swear every new book I’m buying is part of an unfinished series. And yet I keep reading them… maybe I do love the drama of it all 😂 I’m twiddling my thumbs for so many series to get their endings.
Oh, the perpetual cycle! I totally get it. Every time I get excited about getting new books, I swear, a good chunk of them turn out to be part of an unfinished series. It’s like a secret club we bookworms are all unwillingly initiated into! You pick up a thrilling fantasy by someone like Carissa Broadbent, or get hooked on a captivating saga that feels like a 'Songbird' tale, only to realize you’ve reached the end of the published line. And then the wait begins... So, why do we put ourselves through this delightful torture? For me, it's the sheer immersion. When a story truly grips you, the characters feel like friends, and their world becomes a second home. The anticipation builds with every plot twist, every cliffhanger, making the eventual release of the next book feel like a holiday. We crave the resolution, the continuation of these beloved narratives. It's the promise of more, even if that promise comes with a side of agonizing patience. From an author's perspective, I imagine there are countless 'reasons' why a story might be unfinished or face delays. Life happens, right? Creative blocks are real, and crafting an intricate world and plot for an entire series is a monumental task. Sometimes authors switch publishers, face personal challenges, or even find their creative vision shifting. And sadly, sometimes a series might be put on hold if sales don't meet expectations, despite a passionate readership. It’s a complex dance between creativity, business, and life itself. But how do we survive the wait? I've developed a few strategies. Firstly, re-reading the series (or at least the last book) before a new release is a lifesaver for remembering all those intricate details. Secondly, diving into fan communities online can be so much fun! Sharing theories, discussing favorite characters, and just commiserating with fellow readers who are also eagerly awaiting the next installment makes the time fly by. It's a great way to keep the story alive in your mind even when there's no new content. Sometimes I'll also seek out standalone books or start a completely different genre to cleanse my palate and avoid burnout from waiting. And if I feel truly lost, I hunt for completed series by the same author or similar ones to fill the void. It’s all about managing that bookish anticipation! Ultimately, while the #readingstruggles are real, there’s a unique joy in being part of an ongoing story. It’s a shared experience among bookworms, a testament to the power of storytelling that keeps us hooked, page after page, even when the final page of the current installment leaves us desperate for more. Here’s to all the authors working hard on their next masterpieces, and to us, the ever-patient readers!
