Finding Time to Read
I am a mom with a full time job, studying for a certification, and about to start my last semester of college to finish my degree. I often feel like I have no time for myself or hobbies. But during my Maternity leave my love for reading was reignited with a vengeance and I have been doing everything I can to prioritize reading for pleasure. Some days I don’t get to touch a book, but I try to take advantage of any time I can to get my fix! Here’s what is working for me:
1. Audio Books! I used to be so against them, but you have to find the right ones for you!
2. Break time is reading time! I always take my KOBO to work with me and on my lunch breaks when I am pumping I am reading!
3. Make it accessible! An ereader is so so nice to have especially when you are constantly on the go! She goes everywhere with me, my daughter can’t rip it up or chew on it, and I have access to multiple books so if I’m not super into one atm I can click over to another!

Balancing a full-time job, studies, and motherhood can make finding time for reading challenging, but practical approaches can turn even the busiest days into moments of literary enjoyment. Integrating audiobooks into your day is a game-changer—selecting the right narration style and genre that resonate with you enhances the experience, allowing you to enjoy books while commuting or doing household tasks. E-readers like the Kobo are invaluable tools for busy readers. Compact and portable, they protect your books from everyday wear and tear—unlike physical books, which might be vulnerable to little hands. Having multiple titles instantly accessible provides variety and keeps your reading motivation high, especially if your interest in a book fluctuates. Break times, often overlooked, can become dedicated reading moments. For moms who pump at work or take lunch breaks, even 15 minutes can be an opportunity to dive into a chapter, making incremental progress that adds up over time. Readers passionate about series like Sarah J. Maas's 'Throne of Glass' can immerse themselves fully by using e-reader bundles, which often provide entire collections at discounted rates. This not only saves time in acquiring books but also supports uninterrupted storytelling. Using reading hashtags such as #momsthatread, #momsreading, or #bookwormsoflemon8 on social platforms helps connect with a community sharing similar interests, which can offer motivation, book recommendations, and support. Ultimately, by embracing technology and intentional scheduling, you can reignite your love for reading despite a hectic schedule. Prioritize small moments, choose flexible reading formats, and engage with community to enrich both your life and your literary journey.
