My Latest Read… 📖

Scroll to see my Goodreads review to see my full thoughts on this book.

To me, this feels like a cozy romance and even though a little over half is in the summer, there are some amazing parts centered around the holidays, which made it feel all cozy to me.

Again, I will say, childhood best friends to lovers is my favorite trope. So that being said, ANY book that has this trope automatically will get a high ranking (almost always). It’s just my favorite. I love it.

This book was an incredible experience and I cannot WAIT for Charlie’s sequel to come out.

... Read moreOkay, so let's talk about why the 'childhood best friends to lovers' trope just hits different, especially after diving into 'Every Summer After.' For me, there's just something incredibly special about characters who have known each other their entire lives. It's not just the nostalgia; it's the deep, unspoken understanding they share, the shared history, and the way they've seen each other through every awkward phase and triumph. When that friendship blossoms into romance, it feels so earned and real, doesn't it? You know they're not just falling for an idealized version of someone; they're falling for the person they've grown up with, flaws and all. 'Every Summer After' truly masters this, showcasing why it’s a standout among childhood friends to lovers novels. The book perfectly weaves in the 'second chance' element, which is often a natural follow-up to the childhood friends trope. Seeing characters reconnect after years apart, grappling with past hurts and missed opportunities, adds so much emotional depth. It makes you root for them even harder, especially when you see those glimpses of intense dialogue like 'I loved you,' 'You broke my heart,' and 'I know that, too' – it really brings the weight of their history to life. This isn't just fluffy romance; it's a journey of healing and rediscovered connection. Plus, the 'small town' setting mentioned in the book's themes always enhances this kind of story. Everyone knows everyone, and the history is literally built into the landscape, making those childhood friend connections even stronger and more believable. It creates a cozy, immersive world where their paths are almost destined to cross again. I also find that books like this often incorporate a heartwarming 'found family' vibe, even if it's not explicitly stated. The close-knit community and the deep bonds formed over years create a sense of belonging that's just so comforting. It's like you're not just watching two people fall in love, but you're also being welcomed into their entire world. The original post touched on the cozy romance aspect, and I totally agree. Even with the emotional intensity, there's an underlying warmth that makes 'Every Summer After' a truly feel-good yet poignant read. The blend of summer memories and those unexpected holiday-centric parts truly gives it a snug, comforting feel. It’s a reminder that even when things are tough between characters, the foundation of their long-standing friendship can make everything feel a little safer and more hopeful. When I see a book cover, like the one for 'Every Summer After,' that instantly signals a childhood friends to lovers story, I'm pretty much sold. It's almost a guarantee of a satisfying emotional journey. If you're like me and constantly scouring Goodreads or book blogs for your next fix of this amazing trope, then diving deep into what makes these stories shine, especially with elements like second chances, small-town charm, and that undeniable history, really helps you appreciate them even more. This book is a prime example of why this particular subgenre continues to be a go-to for so many romance readers, offering both comfort and compelling drama.
