Did you have a Word of the Year for 2024?
This year, when I prayed about my Word of the Year, I felt God initially tell me…
“Die to Self”
And I thought surely that can’t be right. First of all, that’s not only one word😂
Second of all…. idk if I WANT that to be my WOTY.
I prayed again, and really felt that He was telling me “Die to Self”
He was asking me to surrender. And looking back on this year, the amount of surrendering and “dying to self” that I did was more than I ever thought I’d do in my life. I had to trust God in so many different ways.
I had to surrender my healing, I had to surrender our plans for where we would live next year, I had to surrender friendships and family relationships.
I had my own way of doing things for so long that I didn’t realize I wasn’t letting God into those areas. And He showed me what He could do when I died to myself, took up my cross, and surrendered to Him.
I am so thankful for the lessons I’ve learned this year, and I’m so glad I let God do things His way rather than my own. I’m still not perfect at it, but in time I’ll get better.
Did you have a word for the year? If so what was it?

Choosing a Word of the Year (WOTY) can be a significant part of personal development. Many individuals engage in this practice as a way to focus their intentions for the upcoming year. The process usually involves reflection, prayer, or meditation to determine what word might serve as a guiding principle or mantra. Words commonly chosen include 'growth', 'strength', 'focus', and 'surrender', each reflecting various hopes, goals, or areas for improvement. The benefits of selecting a WOTY are numerous. It helps create a sense of direction, encourages mindfulness, and can motivate you to embrace change. By integrating this word into daily life, individuals often find themselves more attuned to their goals and values. This practice of embedding a WOTY into one’s life can steer decision-making processes, influence mindset, and inspire oneself in challenging times. Those interested in personal development might find it valuable to participate in communities—whether online or in person—where they can share experiences and insights regarding their own WOTY. This not only fosters a sense of belonging but also provides opportunities for accountability, as members encourage each other to live by their chosen words. Reflecting on the previous year and how the WOTY was manifested can be eye-opening, revealing personal growth and areas that still need attention. As the new year approaches, consider taking time to reflect on what you want to focus on. What is significant to you in your life at this moment? What do you hope to cultivate? Allow these reflections to guide you as you select a word that encapsulates your aspirations for the year ahead.

This is a really interesting post. I appreciate that you took the time to share what must have felt very personal in the moment. I’m glad that you felt that what you went through was worth it all
