Cultural & vintage traditions that need to return?
In my opinion I wish we could bring back as a society making homemade decor, and having decor that has sentiment behind it. At the end of the day, decor should brighten the home and make you happy.
But I find such value in making Christmas garlands (popcorn, cranberry and dried orange, paper, you name it) or other handmade decor.
I also wish gathering with family to cook and bake together happened more. I love the idea of being surrounded by family not just on Christmas Day, but throughout the whole Christmas season. Creating together and spending time together.

Many people today are rediscovering the charm and warmth that vintage Christmas traditions bring to the holiday season. One cherished custom is making homemade Christmas garlands, using natural materials like popcorn, cranberries, and dried oranges. These garlands not only add a nostalgic aesthetic but also carry significant sentimental value that store-bought decorations often lack. Engaging in crafting such decorations encourages creativity and offers a sense of accomplishment. It also provides an opportunity for families to work together, passing down skills and stories through generations. These shared moments foster a deeper connection among family members and create lasting holiday memories. Beyond decoration, another vintage tradition worth reviving is gathering with family to cook and bake throughout the Christmas season. Instead of limiting family time to just Christmas Day, extending these gatherings creates a more immersive and joyful festive experience. From rolling dough for cookies to preparing traditional meals, shared cooking boosts cooperation and communication, contributing to emotional well-being. Additionally, handmade decor often reflects a personal touch and heritage, making homes feel cozier and more welcoming. In contrast to commercial decorations, which can sometimes feel impersonal, vintage decor conveys stories and emotions that enrich the holiday atmosphere. Bringing these cultural and vintage Christmas traditions back into everyday life is a beautiful way to celebrate the season’s spirit of joy, togetherness, and gratitude. It reminds us that the true heart of the holidays lies not in material things but in the warmth and memories created with loved ones.

My great grandmother and I strung popcorn, wrapped gum balls in foil from Hershey Kisses - in the ‘60 they had every major color on the color wheel!! We dug up a small cedar tree, put it in a big coffee can and replanted it after Christmas. 🎄
