Cinque Terre

... Read moreOh my goodness, Cinque Terre! If you're anything like me, you've probably seen those postcard-perfect photos, but let me tell you, experiencing it in person is on another level. I just got back from an incredible trip, and I absolutely have to share my favorite parts, especially when it comes to cooling off in those absolutely crystal clear waters! Forget just walking the trails; the real adventure for me was finding the best swimming in Cinque Terre spots and, yes, even trying a bit of cliff jumping. First up, let's talk about Manarola cliff jumping and swimming. This village is just iconic, and its harbor area isn't just for pretty pictures – it’s a fantastic place to take a dip. I found a great spot right by the rocks where locals and tourists alike were diving into the sea. There are some natural ledges and small cliffs where you can (carefully!) try some diff jumping into the refreshing Mediterranean. The water here was incredibly clear, perfect for a swim after a hot day of exploring. Just make sure you're aware of the currents and any local signage. It's exhilarating and definitely an experience you won't forget! The vibe is so lively, with people sunbathing on the Cinque Terre swimming rocks and enjoying the sun. Then there's Riomaggiore cliff jumping and swimming. This charming village also offers some thrilling opportunities. Near the main harbor, you’ll find plenty of spots among the rocks where you can jump straight into the sea. I loved the feeling of the cool water after hiking. It's not usually very high, making it accessible for many, but always check the depth before you leap. For those who prefer a more relaxed swim, there are often designated areas or smaller coves where you can simply wade in and enjoy the stunning views. I spent an afternoon just floating, watching the colorful houses cling to the cliffs – pure bliss! Beyond Manarola and Riomaggiore, pretty much every village in Cinque Terre offers some chance for swimming in Cinque Terre. Monterosso al Mare has the only proper sand beach, which is lovely for a more traditional beach day. But for the adventurous at heart, exploring the rocky coastlines of Vernazza and Corniglia (Maranola and Riomaggiore too!) for a unique swim is a must. Just keep an eye out for easy entry and exit points, as some areas can be quite rocky. I always recommend wearing water shoes to protect your feet. A word of caution for anyone interested in Cinque Terre cliff jumping: always prioritize safety. Never jump if you're unsure of the depth, if there are strong currents, or if it's explicitly forbidden. Observe what locals are doing, and if in doubt, don't jump. But for those safe, exhilarating jumps into the crystal clear waters, it truly adds an unforgettable thrill to your Cinque Terre adventure. Trust me, cooling off in that beautiful blue sea after a day of exploring is one of the best parts of visiting this incredible Italian gem!
