One of my favorite outfit combos in fall is wearing a chunky oversized sweater with a little mini skirt! I think that the juxtaposition of the larger top and the tiny flirty bottom is really cute together, plus it's also practical because you're able to stay warm on top but not overheat with the choice of the skirt haha. Here are some of my favorites that I'm wearing this fall!
This black and green floral skirt is from Zara! It's actually a skort which is super nice. This was $48 and I take a size medium. I love how this fits because it's high waisted and has a flowy a line cut. It's extremely flattering and it's also very easy to wear with oversized sweaters on top! It also comes in solids if you're more into that.
I love this leather mini skirt that I got from Nordstrom! It was $80 and I take a size 6. The combination of knit sweaters with the faux leather is really cool in my opinion! I think it adds some edge to the otherwise crunchy sweaters that I own haha. It's also great for nights out in the fall! I think I might get this in burgundy because I wear the black so much.
I just got in this really cute brown floral skirt from Peppermayo! It was $50 and I wear a size 6. It's definitely a lower rise than I am used to, but that's on trend right now so I'm trying to get with the moment haha. I love the floral color and pattern! It's nice because I can also wear this with white and navy since there is a blue in the pattern.

While mini skirts are definitely a fall favorite for that playful, cozy-chic look, sometimes I crave a bit more elegance or warmth as the weather gets crisper. That's where midi skirts truly shine, and my absolute favorite way to style them for autumn is with a killer pair of ankle boots! This combination is just unbeatable for creating effortlessly stylish and practical outfits for almost any occasion. I've found that midi skirts offer such amazing versatility. They can be dressed up or down, and they provide that perfect balance between coverage and movement. When paired with ankle boots, it's like magic – the proportions just work, creating a long, lean line that’s super flattering. I remember last fall, I was struggling with what to wear for a casual dinner out that felt autumnal but not too dressy. I pulled out a flowy floral midi skirt I had, threw on a simple black turtleneck, and my trusty pointed-toe black ankle boots. It was such a comfortable yet polished look! Here are a few of my go-to midi skirt and ankle boots outfit ideas I've been loving this fall: 1. The Everyday Cozy Combo: For a casual, comfortable look that still feels chic, I often reach for a knit midi skirt, perhaps in a rich autumnal tone like olive or rust. I pair it with an oversized, chunky sweater (think cable knit or a soft cashmere blend) and some flat Chelsea boots or other block-heeled ankle boots. This is my absolute uniform for weekend errands or a relaxed brunch. It keeps me warm without feeling bulky, and the boots add that touch of effortless cool. 2. Edgy & Elevated: If I want to add a bit of edge, I swap out the knit for a faux leather midi skirt. The texture contrast with a softer top is just *chef's kiss*. I'll pair it with a graphic tee or a fitted long-sleeve top, and then pull on my combat boots or some sleek, heeled ankle boots with a slightly pointed toe. This look is fantastic for a night out or if I'm feeling a bit bolder during the day. I recently found a gorgeous black faux leather midi that looks amazing with a tucked-in cream sweater and high-heeled black booties – it feels so put-together! 3. Boho-Chic Vibes: For those sunny but crisp fall days, a flowy floral midi skirt is perfect. I love pairing these with a fitted camisole layered under a denim jacket or a delicate cardigan. For footwear, suede ankle boots, especially in a natural tan or taupe color, complete the look beautifully. They add to that relaxed, earthy feel. I have a gorgeous tiered floral midi that I wear with my brown suede ankle boots, and it just screams autumn! 4. Polished for Work or Evenings: Midi skirts can absolutely be office-appropriate or perfect for a more formal occasion. I gravitate towards A-line or pencil midi skirts in structured fabrics like wool blends or even a satin finish for evening. I pair these with a crisp button-down shirt or a silky blouse, and then finish the look with elegant heeled ankle boots. The heel instantly elevates the outfit and makes your legs look miles long. When choosing your ankle boots, think about the shaft height: some hit right at the ankle, others go a little higher. I find that boots that either fully disappear under the skirt hem or show a tiny sliver of skin between the boot and the skirt work best to avoid shortening your leg line. Also, don't be afraid to experiment with colors beyond black and brown – a deep burgundy or even a cream ankle boot can really elevate your fall looks. Midi skirts and ankle boots are truly a match made in heaven for fall. Don't be afraid to mix and match different textures, patterns, and boot styles to find what makes you feel amazing!
