One of the hardest parts for me when I'm picking out outfits in winter is that most of my warm weather, clothing, items and accessories are all bulky, boring, and neutral. Part of this is by design. It is annoying to have a bright colored parka, for example! However, I'm trying to work on having more colorful accents even in super functional outfits, that's exactly what I tried to do today!
On top I have my Sezane ruffled top! I love how they're blouses are always feminine and unique. This color in particular is really pretty to me, it's in my color season and I think it is one of my "best" pinks! Plus, it is long sleeve and functional while still having some interest and a pop of color! This is $120.
On the bottom, I just wore a dark wash of my favorite Abercrombie 90s relaxed jeans. These are $80 and worth every penny! They're seriously the only cut of jeans I have. If you see me wearing jeans, it's this cut, it's just a different wash haha. They're super warm as well!
To add some fun in, I wore these vintage Chanel earrings that I Thrifted a couple years back. I believe that I paid $40 for them! I think they're super cute and also fit with the girly vibe that I was trying to curate with the top.
I brought in the black again with my suede shoulder bag from TJ Maxx. This was $40 and it still one of my favorite TJ Maxx finds of all time! It fits so much and I love the genuine suede.
For shoes, I wore these Chinese laundry flats that I found at DSW for $70! Ballet flats are super trendy right now and again it adds to the girly vibe that I was trying to bring into this winter outfit.
... Read moreI totally get it – winter fashion can feel like a constant battle between staying warm and actually looking cute and feeling like *you*. For the longest time, my winter wardrobe consisted of bulky, neutral pieces that did the job but left me feeling a bit, well, bland. But I've been on a mission to inject more 'girly' charm and color into my cold-weather looks, and it's been so much fun!
Beyond the specific outfit I shared, there are so many ways to bring that feminine touch into your winter style. For me, it often starts with color. Don't shy away from pastels or vibrant hues just because it's cold outside. A beautiful soft pink, a sky blue, or even a cheerful yellow can instantly elevate a basic outfit. Think about incorporating these colors through a cozy knit sweater, a scarf, or even a statement coat. My favorite Sezane top proves you can have both warmth and delicate details like ruffles and unique cuts.
Accessories are another secret weapon. While chunky scarves and beanies are essentials, you can balance them with more delicate jewelry or a chic handbag. Finding unique pieces like vintage Chanel earrings is such a thrill and they instantly add a touch of elegance and personality. Don't forget a classic suede shoulder bag – I found mine at TJ Maxx, and it's amazing how a well-chosen bag can tie everything together and add a luxe feel.
Now, let's talk about the 'ballet' side of things, since ballet flats, like my Chinese Laundry pair from DSW, are everywhere right now! They're absolutely perfect for adding a 'girly' and sophisticated touch to any outfit. I love pairing mine with my trusty Abercrombie jeans for a comfortable yet polished look. But beyond just the flats, you can embrace a full 'balletcore' aesthetic this winter. Think soft, flowing fabrics, wrap-style cardigans, and delicate knits. Layer a fine-gauge knit top under a structured blazer, or try a cozy, oversized cardigan with a pair of leggings or even a midi skirt. You could even rock stylish knit leg warmers over your ballet flats for an extra touch of warmth and undeniable charm.
If you're wondering about actual 'outfits to wear to the ballet' (meaning, attending a performance), that's a slightly different vibe. For a formal event, you might opt for a sophisticated dress, perhaps in velvet or a rich jewel tone, paired with elegant heels and a clutch. But even then, you can add a 'girly' element with a delicate necklace or a beautiful hair accessory. For a more casual class, think athletic wear that allows movement but still feels put-together, like a fitted long-sleeve top and leggings, maybe with a cozy wrap.
Ultimately, making your winter outfits 'girly' is all about playing with textures, colors, and thoughtful details. Don't be afraid to mix and match. Those Abercrombie jeans are truly a staple because they're so versatile. Pair them with a silk blouse and a chunky knit cardigan, or a vibrant turtleneck. The key is to find pieces that make you feel good, warm, and utterly you! Experiment with different silhouettes – a flowy skirt with tall boots can be just as warm and feminine as jeans. Happy styling, and stay cozy!
