How I fixed my form for side lying sweeps👇
1. Make sure your elbow is directly below your shoulder
2. Avoid slouching, lift up through your obliques (aka side body)
3. Engage your core + tuck your hips under
4. Slow down. The slower you go the harder it will be
5. Bring your shoulders out of your ears

From my experience as a Pilates instructor, perfecting the side lying sweep exercise is all about mindfulness and precision in your movement. The key is to really focus on the alignment, especially keeping your elbow directly underneath your shoulder. This positioning supports your body and helps avoid unnecessary strain. One trick I've found helpful is to mentally lift through the obliques — the side body muscles — instead of just trying to push the movement with your arm. Engaging your core deeply while tucking your hips under creates a stable foundation, making the exercise more effective for strengthening your waist and overall core. Slowing the movement down significantly increases its difficulty but also improves muscle engagement and control. It’s easy to rush through exercises, but slowing your pace ensures you’re activating the right muscles throughout the sweep. Don’t forget to relax your shoulders and avoid shrugging them towards your ears, which can cause tension and reduce the effectiveness of the exercise. This small adjustment leads to a more fluid and comfortable motion. Overall, Pilates isn’t as hard as it sometimes seems; it’s all about attention to form and gradual progress. Incorporating these adjustments into your routine can transform your workout experience and lead to better results. Keep practicing these form fixes, and you'll see the difference in strength, posture, and flexibility over time.
