... Read moreBeing Blasian means having a mixed heritage of Black and Asian descent, which creates a unique cultural identity that blends traditions from both backgrounds. I’ve found that growing up Blasian involves navigating multiple cultural worlds, which can be both challenging and enriching. For example, in social settings, people often ask me what being Blasian means or where I ‘‘really’’ come from, highlighting the curiosity around this mixed ethnicity. One key aspect of Blasian identity is embracing both African and Asian cultural influences, whether through food, language, or customs. People who identify as Blasian may celebrate festivals from both cultures or incorporate different languages into their daily lives. From personal experience, I notice how cultural practices from each side offer a broader perspective and a diverse community connection. The term "Blasin" or "Blasian" is sometimes used interchangeably, emphasizing pride in this mixed heritage. While some may not speak both languages of their backgrounds fluently, the cultural resonance is felt deeply. Blasian culture is continually evolving as younger generations express their identities through creative outlets like music, fashion, and social media. This evolving culture helps increase awareness and appreciation of Blasian people globally.
