Things that matter when you turn 30

When I hear the words glow up, I always think of physical appearances.. And while I’m all for a good looking glow up, I’m more here for the kind that happens internally.

I was a conventionally attractive 20 something. I had fashionable clothes, hobbies and liked makeup & drinking… Pretty on par with the rest of my college girlies. But one thing I didn’t have was any kind of self awareness. I did things mostly for myself, rarely thinking how they impacted others. And somehow at the same time, I was also a people pleaser to the max.

My biggest 30s glowup? Therapy, realizing my opinion matters, and that my time is absolutely precious.

Double tap if you're with me. <3

This age brings with it a variety of realizations about self-identity and personal growth. For many, this decade can foster a deeper understanding of life priorities. Embracing mental health becomes crucial, as therapy and self-reflection illuminate paths to self-acceptance. Cultivating self-awareness empowers individuals to recognize their own needs and boundaries, contrasting their potentially people-pleasing tendencies of their twenties. The dialogue surrounding neurodiversity is more prominent than ever, echoing in spaces where individuals learn about themselves and their unique needs without guilt or shame. The importance of accommodating one's own mental and emotional health is emphasized, revealing that a sense of self-worth is integral to wellbeing. Moreover, realizing that the only opinion that matters is your own can be liberating. As you navigate your 30s, the focus on self-care, alongside a supportive community, shifts perspectives. This journey is not just about outer appearances but underscores the richness of one’s inner world and authenticity. Embrace your glow up—it is a vital step in your personal evolution.

Turning 30 was one of the best things to happen to me. I care about me more and am not ashamed or guilty about taking care of me and putting my needs first. Plus I just don’t really care about how most everyone thinks about me or their opinions of me.
