Making boring tasks more interesting, ADHDer style

If I told you that I did content last week in my sloth onesie, just because it was new and different, would you believe me? I am a big believer in using whatever I can to trick my brain, and novelty is one of the tools I most use for this.

I think many people listen to music when they do stuff they don’t want to do (like meal prep for the week, or monotonous work), so I list it as a tool knowing personally that it works well.

Last and maybe most importantly, look at your sensory environment. Is it too gray? Too dull? Is it free of color and excitement? If so, try adding something like twinkle lights or an LED light in a cute shape. I turn on my rainbow light at my desk any time I feel like I need a little boost.

... Read moreFor individuals with ADHD, finding ways to enhance productivity can often feel like a challenge. Incorporating novelty into daily routines is crucial; whether it's dressing in a fun outfit or utilizing unique items like a favorite coffee mug, bringing excitement into mundane tasks can aid concentration. Listening to music is widely recognized as a powerful tool for maintaining focus during repetitive activities. It's suggested to curate playlists that energize and motivate. Additionally, adjusting your sensory environment can make a significant difference. If your workspace feels dull, consider adding colorful decorations, LED lights, or engaging visual stimuli to uplift your mood. This can be as simple as twinkling fairy lights or vibrant artwork that evokes positive feelings. Such adjustments can not only brighten your environment but also your mindset, making it easier to tackle tasks that might otherwise seem tedious. Finally, it's important to take breaks and introduce small rewards to maintain motivation throughout the day. Implementing these ADHD-friendly strategies fosters a more enjoyable and productive work routine.
