Giving yourself more time as an ADHDer

Sometimes, I feel like it takes me 3 times the time and effort as most of the other people around me. But instad of getting caught up on that comparison, I just do what I can to accommodate myself.

I’ve learned that there are three categories these seem to fall into: physical, executive function and time. For physical, I use easy hairstyles. I’ll straighten my hair one day, braid it and put it up overnight, use the braids the next day. On the third day, I’ll use dry shampoo and take out the braids for a wavy look… And so on and so forth.

To aid executive function, I make sure to meal plan once a week and have things I can easily grab and eat for meals, as it takes less time and energy. I also eat better on these days.

And lastly, to help with time, I set reminders and timers to go off through the day. It reminds me when it’s been an hour (even if it only feels like 10 minutes!)

How do you level up your time?

... Read moreManaging time effectively is crucial for individuals with ADHD, as it can often feel like a constant battle against the clock. Here are some proven techniques that can help optimize your daily routine: 1. **Easy Hair Styles**: As mentioned, simplifying your beauty routine can save valuable time. Consider exploring hairstyles that require minimal effort, such as braids or using dry shampoo for effortless styling. 2. **Meal Prep**: Planning your meals ahead of time not only saves energy but also promotes healthier eating habits. Allocate a day each week to prepare meals in advance so that you have nutritious options ready to grab, reducing the stress of last-minute cooking. 3. **Set Reminders**: Utilize technology to your advantage. Setting alarms and reminders on your phone or using physical timers can keep you on track throughout the day. Finding a rhythm with notifications can minimize distractions and help maintain focus. 4. **Break Tasks into Steps**: Large tasks can feel daunting, so breaking them into smaller, manageable steps can provide clarity and a sense of accomplishment as you complete each segment. 5. **Prioritize Your Day**: Each morning, take a moment to identify your top priorities. Focusing on limiting your tasks to a reasonable number can help in managing your time efficiently without feeling overwhelmed. 6. **Stay Organized**: Maintaining a clutter-free environment can significantly enhance focus. Use organizers or digital tools to keep track of tasks and appointments systematically. 7. **Self-Compassion**: Remember to be kind to yourself when things don't go as planned. It's important to recognize that everyone works differently and allow yourself the grace to navigate challenges as you find your own pace. By incorporating these techniques into your routine, you can empower yourself to manage your time better and enhance your overall well-being.
