Neurodivergent sugar rush this week
We tend to get a little sugar heavy in our AuDHD household. I’m not sure if there’s a link between sugar and dopamine, but it feels like there is 😂
We tend to eat “healthyish” most of the time, but all of that goes out the windows for the holidays. Happiness and memories over perfection 🤷♀️
What are your favorite holiday treats?
In a neurodivergent family, the holiday season can bring a mix of joy and sensory challenges. The love for sugar-laden treats often leads to delightful yet complex experiences, especially when creating holiday goodies. From delicious cookies that are a sensory delight to pancakes that are both a treat and a sensory trial for some, these festive recipes can invoke strong emotions. One popular idea is to create colorful cookies, where families can engage in decorating together, even if it ends up a bit messy. Another fun recipe includes Kit Kat pancakes, which might invoke different reactions depending on the individual's sensory preferences. Lastly, staying hydrated is crucial, especially with all the sugary indulgence this season. Consider serving refreshing juice that can balance the sugar levels while maintaining energy, especially as many neurodivergent individuals are sensitive to sugar effects. Embrace the spirit of the season by sharing experiences and favorite holiday treats that can invigorate the family bond and create lasting memories.

this holiday season I learned that I HATE decorating sugar cookies 😭😭 i’m too much of a perfectionist and it just leads to me shutting down
