In my experience helping teens secure scholarships, I've seen firsthand how many families get caught in what I call 'research mode.' It’s easy to spend weeks or even months searching for scholarships, saving ideas, and discussing plans, but none of that effort counts if applications aren’t submitted. One tip I always share is that motivation alone isn’t enough; you need a clear, actionable system to organize the process. For example, setting weekly goals to complete specific parts of an application keeps things manageable and prevents overwhelm. Breaking down tasks into smaller steps, such as gathering recommendation letters one week and writing essays the next, helps maintain momentum. Additionally, procrastination often comes from fear of rejection or uncertainty about the application. To overcome this, I encourage a mindset shift: every submission is a win because it increases the chance of success. Even if a teen doesn’t win a particular scholarship, the practice gained will improve future applications. A useful tool is to create a spreadsheet tracking deadlines, requirements, and submission statuses to keep everything visible and on schedule. Involving parents or mentors for accountability can also drive progress. Finally, live execution sessions like the ones mentioned offer a fantastic opportunity to stop overplanning and start doing.
