From my experience, one of the biggest challenges teens face in college is not just academic knowledge but essential life skills that many are missing before they arrive on campus. Skills like time management, effective note-taking, and critical thinking are often overlooked in high school curriculums but are vital for college success. For example, taking thorough, organized notes during lectures can dramatically improve understanding and retention, something many students neglect until it's too late. Another crucial aspect is financial literacy—managing budgets, understanding student loans, and saving money. Without this knowledge, teens can quickly find themselves overwhelmed and stressed, which impacts their academic performance and mental well-being. Personally, I’ve seen teens thrive once they develop a realistic approach to their college experience, including learning to ask for help, seeking campus resources, and balancing social life with study commitments. Parents play a key role in this preparation by encouraging independence and responsibility while providing emotional support. Ultimately, readiness for college is about more than test scores; it’s about equipping teens with practical skills and a mindset geared toward growth and resilience. This reality check helps highlight what they truly need to succeed and avoid the pitfalls that lead to failure in college.
