SEC: Four More Roundtable Talks about Crypto

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced plans to host four public roundtables from April to June 2025. The roundtables will focus on key areas of the cryptocurrency industry, including trading, custody, asset tokenization, and decentralized finance (DeFi).

The first roundtable, scheduled for April 11, will discuss "Tailoring Regulations for Crypto Trading." The second roundtable on April 25 will focus on "Key Issues for Custody Institutions." On May 12, the topic will be "Asset On - Chain and the Integration with Traditional Finance," and the final roundtable on June 6 will explore "DeFi and the American Spirit."

This initiative, led by SEC Commissioner Hester M. Peirce, represents a significant shift in the SEC's approach to cryptocurrency regulation. Historically, the SEC's focus has been primarily on enforcement actions. However, these roundtables signal a move towards a more collaborative and clear regulatory framework. Commissioner Peirce described this as a "spring sprint towards clarity in cryptocurrency."

The meetings will take place at the SEC's headquarters, with options for both in-person and virtual attendance. The specific agenda and participants for each session have yet to be announced, but all events will be open to the public. The crypto task force, established by acting SEC Chairman Mark T. Uyeda in January 2025, will play a crucial role in guiding these discussions.

Industry leaders have welcomed the SEC's decision to engage with the industry through these roundtables. They see it as a positive step towards creating a stable regulatory environment that can encourage both innovation and investment in the cryptocurrency sector.
