My transformation.

2 years ago I had a vsg surgery that changed my life forever. I had struggled for years with a chronic illness and this was my golden ticket to feeling better. With that being said, I loved my old body and having such a huge change in your physical appearance, you learn many lessons you wish you had known. I was journaling and I wrote an entry for my old self that I feel is important to share.

Dear old self,

1. Your weight does not define your worth. You are just as worthy skinny as you are overweight. I wish I would have known then and I would have avoided much heart break and people walking all over me.

2. Your body doesn’t define your beauty. It’s sad that I felt this way for years because once the weight was gone, I did not gain that confidence instantly, I had to learn it on my own.

3. Weight does not determine how you can be loved. My family and friends do not love me more or less because of my weight, they love me for who I am as a person. I am with a partner who liked me before the weight loss and still continues to love me after.

4. Weight does not determine your happiness. Live life to the fullest and love yourself. I struggled for years thinking if I just lost 5 pounds, I would be happy but the truth was, no weight can truly determine my happiness. It is myself that chooses that.

I wish I could go back in time to tell myself this, while I do not regret the decisions I have made. I truly would have been easier on myself.

You are beautiful no matter what size.

Many individuals who experience significant weight loss through surgeries like VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) often find themselves learning vital life lessons about body image and acceptance. For example, it's essential to realize that your physical form has little to do with your intrinsic value. Achieving a healthier body may lead to improved health, but true happiness and worth come from self-acceptance and love. Emphasizing self-compassion is crucial; the reflection on one's past struggles can often lead to greater resilience. Sharing experiences and engaging in supportive communities can also enhance the journey, allowing individuals to connect with others who resonate with similar feelings. It's beneficial to understand that after losing weight, feelings of inadequacy might still linger; thus, ongoing self-care and confidence-building practices are vital. Learning that one can be loved wholly irrespective of weight is a lesson many wish they had recognized earlier in their journeys. Ultimately, embracing one's authentic self, regardless of size, can lead to a fulfilling life beyond physical appearances. Champions of body positivity reinforce these ideas daily, encouraging everyone to celebrate their unique journey toward health and happiness.
