END OF YEAR REFLECTIONS

I know there are so many things going on about what to do as you end the year. One of the biggest things is reflecting and thinking about the year past. Here are three questions to ask yourself:

What did I learn about myself this year?

What am I most proud of accomplishing or overcoming?

What do I want to leave behind, and what will I carry forward?

... Read moreTaking time for personal reflection at the end of the year isn't just a trend; it's a powerful practice that has truly transformed my perspective. I used to rush into New Year's resolutions without really understanding my past year's journey. But now, I realize the immense value in pausing and asking myself crucial questions for self-reflection. It’s not about judging yourself, but rather about learning and growing. So, how do you go about writing a truly good reflection? For me, it starts with finding a quiet space, free from distractions. Grab your favorite journal or just a blank sheet of paper, and be honest with yourself. There’s no right or wrong answer here – just your truth. I often put on some calming music and just let my thoughts flow. The key is to avoid overthinking and simply write down whatever comes to mind. This process helps you dive deep into what 'reflect' truly means for your personal growth, providing clear EOY Reflections. Let's delve a bit deeper into those powerful personal reflection questions to ask yourself: First, "What did I learn about myself this year?" This question, which echoes the 'WHAT DI ABOUT YOURSELF?' prompt I often see in reflection exercises, is foundational. It’s about more than just achievements; it's about inner shifts. Did I discover a new strength when faced with an unexpected challenge? Perhaps I learned to be more patient, or to set stronger boundaries. Maybe I realized a passion I never knew I had. For me, this past year, I learned that I thrive on collaboration, which was a surprising discovery after years of thinking I preferred working alone. It helps to think about specific moments – both tough and triumphant – and analyze your reactions. What did those moments teach you about your resilience, your values, or your emotional landscape? Next, "What am I most proud of accomplishing or overcoming?" When I first tackle this, I used to only think about big, visible successes. But I've learned that pride can come from small, consistent efforts too. It could be finishing a difficult project at work, yes, but it could also be consistently showing up for a new hobby, successfully managing a challenging family situation, or even just sticking to a healthier routine. The 'WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?' isn't just about the outcome, but the effort and the growth it took. Last year, I was incredibly proud of finally committing to a consistent meditation practice, even on days I didn't feel like it. It wasn't a huge external accomplishment, but it significantly improved my mental well-being. Don't underestimate the quiet victories! Finally, "What do I want to leave behind, and what will I carry forward?" This is where you get to actively shape your future. Thinking about 'TO LEAVE BEHIND?' is about identifying the habits, mindsets, or even relationships that no longer serve your highest good. It’s about releasing baggage. For me, it was the habit of constantly comparing my journey to others. It was draining and unproductive. And 'what will I carry forward?' is about intentionally choosing the positive lessons, the newfound strengths, the supportive connections, and the healthy practices you want to nurture in the coming year. It could be a new skill, a deeper sense of self-worth, or a commitment to better time management. Engaging with these personal reflection questions isn't just for students or academics; it's for anyone looking to live more intentionally. These are truly essential questions to ask yourself regularly, not just at year-end. By regularly reflecting, we gain clarity, appreciate our journey, and set ourselves up for an even more fulfilling future. It's a journey of continuous self-discovery and growth.
