Don’t blink! The Toyota Crown CarPlay

Ever since I got my new Toyota Crown, one of the first things I couldn't wait to explore was its infotainment system, especially the CarPlay integration! As someone who relies heavily on my phone for everything from directions to my favorite podcasts, having a seamless connection in my car is a game-changer. I wanted to share my experience getting it all set up and some tips I've picked up along the way. Getting Started: Connecting CarPlay to Your Toyota Crown First off, connecting my iPhone to the Toyota Crown's system was surprisingly straightforward. My Favorite CarPlay Features in the Crown Once connected, the world of your iPhone opens up on your car's screen. Here’s what I've been loving: Effortless Navigation: The 'Destinations' feature is a lifesaver! I can use Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze directly on the screen. Typing in an address or using voice commands through Siri (just press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel) is so much safer than looking at my phone. The turn-by-turn directions are clear, and it integrates perfectly with the car's speakers. The OCR also showed '目的地' which is Japanese for destination, clearly highlighting this key feature. Music & Podcasts On Demand: The 'AUDIO' section of my Crown's display is always buzzing. I can easily access my Spotify, Apple Music, or even the 'Podcast' app from my phone. Browsing 'Recent' plays or my 'Favourites' playlists is simple using the car's screen or steering wheel controls. The 'VOL·POWER' knob also makes adjusting sound levels intuitive without distraction. I even saw 'NetEaseMu' in the OCR, suggesting regional music app support, which is cool for some users! Staying Connected (Safely!): Receiving 'Messages' or making calls through 'Contacts' is super easy with CarPlay. Siri reads new messages aloud, and I can dictate replies without ever touching my phone. It truly keeps my focus on the road, which is paramount. Beyond the Basics: I've found it handy to check my 'Calendar' for upcoming appointments directly on the screen. While not something I use daily, it's there when I need it. A Quick Note on Android Auto For my Android-using friends, the Toyota Crown also fully supports Android Auto! The setup process is very similar to CarPlay – either plug in via USB or connect wirelessly via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You'll get access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, Spotify, and other Android-compatible apps, offering the same level of convenience and safety. Tips for an Optimal Experience: Keep Software Updated: Both your phone's OS and your car's infotainment software should be kept up to date for the best performance. Voice Commands are Your Friend: Siri or Google Assistant are fantastic for making calls, sending texts, changing music, or getting directions hands-free. Customize Your Apps: You can customize the order of apps that appear on your CarPlay/Android Auto screen from your phone's settings, putting your most-used apps front and center. Using CarPlay in my Toyota Crown has genuinely elevated my driving experience. It feels like an extension of my digital life, integrated seamlessly and safely into my car.
