How to care for your natural hair

2025/9/14 Edited to

... Read moreCaring for 4C natural hair requires a consistent and mindful routine that addresses its unique texture and moisture needs. One of the most important practices is regular trimming to prevent split ends, which not only look unhealthy but can also travel up the hair shaft causing further damage. Experts recommend trimming hair every three months to maintain fullness and health. Moisturizing is key for 4C hair, which tends to be prone to dryness due to its tightly coiled structure. The LCO (Liquid, Cream, Oil) and LOC (Liquid, Oil, Cream) methods are popular for locking in moisture. Typically, you begin with spritzing water or a leave-in conditioner (liquid), followed by a cream to define curls and then sealing with an oil like shea butter to keep moisture locked in. Choosing a thick, creamy styler helps to enhance curl definition and maintain hydration. In addition to daily moisture, weekly deep conditioning treatments nourish and hydrate the hair deeply. Using a steamer during conditioning can greatly improve absorption, especially for low porosity hair. To get the best results, steam your hair every wash day using distilled water, avoiding tap water which can cause buildup and dryness. Some even add coffee to their steaming routine as it may help combat DHT, a hormone linked to hair loss. Gentle detangling during wash days with fingers or a wide-tooth comb minimizes breakage. For cleansing, sulfate-free shampoos or co-washes effectively remove buildup without stripping natural oils. Monthly routines should include clarifying shampoos to remove heavy buildup and protein treatments to strengthen strands and reduce breakage. Protecting your hair overnight with satin or silk scarves, bonnets, or pillowcases prevents moisture loss and reduces friction that can cause damage. Embracing these practices tailored for 4C hair will support healthy growth, minimize breakage, and keep natural curls vibrant and well-defined.

Thank for the tips! Do you just add a little coffee in with the water for the steamer?
