I blocked family before my baby shower. 💅🏻 AMA!

I tried so hard to keep things peaceful before my baby shower, but some people just can’t help bringing negativity where it doesn’t belong. A few family members were speaking to me disrespectfully and I finally realized I didn’t owe them access to my life or my happiness (let alone my babies). I realized it is better it happened now rather than later! So, I hit block. No arguments, no explanations, just peace. ✨

Blocking certain family members is a tough but sometimes necessary decision to protect your well-being and create a positive environment for yourself and your baby. Many people hesitate to set firm boundaries with family due to fear of judgment or guilt. However, prioritizing mental health and peace of mind is crucial. Toxic family dynamics often bring unnecessary stress, which can affect your emotional and even physical health during pregnancy. Choosing to block disrespectful relatives can create a safe space where you feel supported and valued. It's important to remember that blocking family isn’t about anger or punishment; it’s an act of self-respect. It allows you to focus on your happiness and prepare for your baby without draining negativity. There is value in setting clear boundaries early, preventing prolonged conflict postpartum when you need peace the most. For others considering this step, reflect on what kinds of interactions harm your energy and whether limiting or cutting off contact could improve your quality of life. Communication isn’t always possible or productive, so taking control digitally can be a helpful tool. By sharing your experience, you open the door for supportive conversations. Others might feel validated or inspired to advocate for their own emotional safety. Ultimately, building a circle of love and respect around your growing family is what matters most.

I have not done that but mental health is very serious and if you felt that was necessary for you to have peace to celebrate your baby. That was the right decision to make.
