... Read moreOh my goodness, you guys! I still can't believe I finally brought home my very own baby dachshund! My heart is just bursting with love. I mean, seriously, can anything be cuter than a tiny 'weiner dog' puppy? The original post was just a glimpse, but I wanted to share more about our first few days together because it's been such an incredible journey already.
When I first picked him up, he was just a tiny ball of fluff and energy, but also so sleepy! That moment when he curled up in my arms and just drifted off? Pure magic. It felt like he instantly trusted me, and that bond formed right there. For anyone thinking about getting a baby dachshund, be prepared for endless cuddles and those adorable puppy snores – they're the best!
Bringing a new puppy home is always an adventure, and with a baby weiner dog, it’s extra special. They have such big personalities packed into their tiny bodies. One of the first things I focused on was creating a cozy, safe space for him. We set up a little crate with a soft blanket, and honestly, he took to it surprisingly well for naps and nighttime. It’s been crucial for helping him feel secure in his new environment.
Potty training is definitely a work in progress, but we're making headway! Frequent trips outside, lots of praise, and a consistent schedule are key. I’ve learned that a patient and positive approach makes all the difference, especially with these smart little guys. And feeding time? He's such a little foodie! Watching him eagerly munch on his puppy kibble is just too cute.
If you're considering adding a baby dachshund to your family, here are a few things I've found helpful in these early days:
Crate Training is Your Friend: It provides a safe den and aids in potty training.
Frequent Potty Breaks: Little bladders need to go often! Take them out every hour or two, especially after waking up and eating.
Socialization is Key: Even at a young age, gentle exposure to new sights, sounds, and people (once vaccinated) is so important for a well-adjusted dog.
Puppy-Proof Your Home: They are naturally curious and will try to chew on *everything*.
Patience and Love: They're learning, and consistency with positive reinforcement works wonders.
Vet Visits: Schedule that first vet check-up quickly to ensure they're healthy and on track with vaccinations.
Every day brings new discoveries with my little guy. He's already showing so much personality, from playful zoomies to those deep, sleepy cuddles. Owning a baby weiner dog is truly a joy, and I can't wait to share more of our journey with you all. What are your favorite baby puppy moments?
