teen photography 🌸

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 You know that dreamy, effortless vibe you see in so much teen photography lately? I've been completely obsessed with it, and it feels like everyone's searching for that 'Mikomi Hokina' aesthetic – whether they know her name or just recognize the style! I totally get it; there's something so authentic and captivating about it. I've been experimenting with my own shoots to capture that same magic, and I wanted to share some of my go-to tips with you all to help you achieve that perfect look, just like the inspiring shots we see. First things first: it’s all about the location and light. Forget stuffy studios! The Mikomi Hokina vibe is all about embracing the outdoors. Think open fields, quiet parks, or even just your backyard with some beautiful natural elements. Remember that stunning image of the young girl with long brown hair sitting on a tree stump outdoors? That perfectly encapsulates the natural, unposed beauty we're aiming for. Look for spots with soft, diffused light – early morning or late afternoon (golden hour!) are your best friends. This kind of lighting creates that warm, glowy effect that makes everything look so ethereal. Next up, posing and expression – and this is where you really nail the 'authentic' part. The goal isn't stiff, forced smiles. It's about capturing genuine moments. Encourage your subject to relax, be themselves, and even move around a bit. I often suggest simple prompts: 'Imagine you're thinking about something fun,' or 'Look out into the distance as if you're dreaming.' That pose where the girl has her legs crossed and hand resting on her chin, looking towards the camera? It’s subtly engaging and totally natural. Don't be afraid to let your subject lean against a tree, sit on the grass, or just interact with their surroundings. The more comfortable they feel, the more natural the photos will be. And let's talk styling. The "light dress and cowboy boots" combo from that iconic image? It’s a perfect example of effortless chic. The key is comfort and personality. Think flowy dresses, vintage-inspired pieces, simple denim, or cozy sweaters. Avoid anything too distracting or overly formal. The clothing should complement the natural setting, not compete with it. Soft, muted colors often work best to maintain that dreamy, cohesive feel. When it comes to composition, try playing with different angles. Get down low, shoot from above, or use elements in the foreground to create depth. The background showing green grass and a tree, as seen in many Mikomi-inspired shots, adds so much to the overall mood. Don't be afraid to leave some negative space; it helps the subject stand out and adds to the serene atmosphere. Finally, editing can really elevate your photos. I love using presets that enhance natural tones, add a touch of warmth, and maybe a subtle film grain effect. Keep it natural – the idea isn't to drastically alter the image, but to enhance the beauty that's already there. Softening shadows and highlights can create that gentle, airy feel. I'm so excited for you to try these tips! It's amazing how much difference a few thoughtful choices can make in capturing that coveted Mikomi Hokina aesthetic. What are your favorite tips for outdoor teen photography? Share your thoughts and results in the comments! Can't wait to see your beautiful captures! 📸

Photography 101: ISO Explained
ISO is your camera's sensitivity to light. You can change your ISO depending on how much light (and therefore detail) you want your camera to pick up. Be careful in low-light settings though! Higher ISO can introduce grain or noise into your images, which isn't always desirable. It’s all ab
