This is your journey
Who says there has to be only one mountain on your journey?
My running looked different before kids compared to what it looks like now. This doesn’t mean I have to stop running or stop reaching for new goals, accomplishments, or even PRs. The climb will just look different, and to me, that is the beauty. 🏔️✨

Many runners face significant changes in their fitness routines after major life events such as becoming a parent. The sentiment captured by the phrase "You're now a mom, you already hit your run peak, move on" often reflects societal pressures to lower expectations or accept a diminished athletic identity. However, this perspective overlooks a valuable truth: running is a uniquely personal journey that transforms alongside life changes. Motherhood introduces new challenges such as time constraints, physical recovery, and shifting priorities, which can affect training frequency and intensity. Yet, many mother runners find that this new chapter also offers fresh opportunities for growth, motivation, and goal-setting. For instance, setting different types of personal records (PRs) or focusing on consistency rather than speed can provide a fulfilling and sustainable approach to running. The idea that "there has to be only one mountain on your journey" can be limiting. Instead, embracing multiple peaks—varied goals and milestones over time—allows one to appreciate progress in all forms. Some runners may now compete in shorter races, participate in fun runs with family, or even explore new fitness crossovers like strength training to support overall health. Communities such as #runningcommunity and #motherrunner provide invaluable encouragement, sharing stories of resilience and adaptation. These groups emphasize that a running journey after kids is not a step down but a different, equally rewarding climb. Recognizing this helps dispel guilt or frustration, replacing it with pride and joy for every step forward. Ultimately, the beauty of running after motherhood lies in its flexibility and personal meaning. Whether chasing a marathon finish line, improving endurance, or simply embracing movement for mental well-being, this journey is uniquely yours. Celebrate every achievement and remember that every mountain you climb, big or small, shapes your running story in meaningful ways.
