14 week cleaning challenge!!

... Read moreHey everyone! Following along with my 14-week cleaning challenge has me thinking a lot about how a good house cleaning schedule can really make a difference. We just tackled Day 2 in the laundry room, and it made me realize how overwhelming cleaning can feel without a plan. If you're looking to start your own home organization challenge, or just want to get your cleaning routine under control, here are some tips I’ve picked up that might help you create a schedule that works! First off, why bother with a schedule? Honestly, it breaks down those huge tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. Instead of staring at a whole messy house, you can focus on one room, or even one area, like we did with the laundry room floors and baseboards. It makes it feel less daunting and more achievable. When creating your own schedule, think about a "challenge" format, just like my 14-week plan. You can dedicate specific weeks or days to different rooms or even specific types of tasks. For instance, one week could be focused on the kitchen, another on bathrooms, and then perhaps a 'deep dive' week for key areas like the laundry room. My recent focus on the laundry room involved tasks like 'wiping down doors, baseboards, doorknobs, and switchplates'—these little details often get overlooked but make a huge impact. Consider dividing your home into 'zones' – the OCR content mentioned 'organizing the laundry room into zones,' which is brilliant advice! This could mean treating your pantry as one zone, your linen closet as another, or even breaking down a large room into smaller sections. For each zone, list out specific tasks. For example, in the laundry room, besides wiping surfaces, you might 'sort through each item as you empty the space' and 'purge anything that doesn't belong,' as my challenge suggests. Don't forget to 'clean your dryer, including the dryer vent'—that's a critical safety and efficiency task many forget! For frequency, I find it helpful to mix it up. Daily tasks (like making your bed or wiping counters), weekly tasks (vacuuming, tidying bathrooms), and then those bigger, less frequent tasks (like a deep laundry room clean or window washing) that can be slotted into a longer challenge. A 14-week schedule is perfect for spreading out those larger tasks without feeling rushed. My biggest tip for sticking to it? Start small! Don't try to deep clean your entire house in one weekend. Take Day 2, for example – it was just the floors and baseboards in the laundry room. Achievable, right? Celebrate those small wins. Also, be flexible. Life happens, and if you miss a day, don't beat yourself up. Just pick up where you left off. Maybe even find an accountability partner or share your progress online, like I do! Seeing your progress, even if it's just cleaner laundry room floors, is incredibly motivating. Implementing a structured house cleaning schedule, whether it’s a big 14-week challenge or a simpler weekly routine, can truly transform your living space. It leads to a cleaner home, less stress, and more time to enjoy what matters most. Happy cleaning!
