... Read moreAfter my recent trip to Carmel by the Sea, I just had to share more about why this coastal gem stole my heart! Beyond the cozy home we rented (which was absolutely perfect!), Carmel offers such a unique charm that's hard to find anywhere else. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel relaxed and inspired. Wandering through the fairytale village felt like stepping into a storybook. Every corner reveals something new – from quirky art galleries tucked away in sun-drenched courtyards to boutique shops with treasures you won't find anywhere else. I spent hours just exploring, popping into little bakeries for a fresh pastry and coffee, and admiring the stunning architecture of the cottages. Don't even get me started on the flowers! They’re everywhere, adding vibrant splashes of color to the already picturesque streets and making every photo opportunity a dream. And then there's the beach. Oh, Carmel Beach! It’s iconic for a reason, and a must-visit. The soft white sand and dramatic cypress trees create such a serene backdrop, especially at sunset. Even if you're not staying in a home with ocean views, a leisurely walk along the shore is essential. It’s incredibly dog-friendly too, which is always a bonus if you're traveling with furry friends. Watching the dogs frolic in the waves was just delightful and added to the joyful atmosphere. Food-wise, Carmel by the Sea has something for everyone. From casual cafes perfect for a hearty breakfast or light lunch to upscale dining experiences for a special evening, my taste buds were in heaven. I particularly loved discovering a tiny Italian place with the most authentic pasta – a true hidden gem! And of course, being so close to California's wine country, there are plenty of charming tasting rooms right in the village where you can sample exquisite local wines. One of the biggest perks of our trip was having our own 'home base' – that charming house we stayed in. It made the whole experience so much more relaxing and authentic than a hotel. Instead of a typical room, we had a fully equipped kitchen for morning coffee and cozy evenings in, a comfortable living room to unwind after a day of exploring, and even a little garden space to enjoy the fresh air. It truly felt like living like a local, even if just for a few days, offering privacy and a sense of belonging. It's perfect for families or couples looking for a more intimate and personalized getaway. If you have extra time, don't miss the scenic drives around Carmel. The famous 17-Mile Drive is right there, offering breathtaking ocean views and glimpses of iconic landmarks like the Lone Cypress. And if you're feeling adventurous, a short drive south takes you towards the dramatic, rugged landscapes of Big Sur. It's truly a photographer's paradise and provides a wonderful contrast to Carmel's gentle charm. Overall, my Carmel by the Sea experience was everything I hoped for and more. It’s the kind of place where you can truly slow down, breathe in the fresh sea air, and just enjoy the simple, beautiful pleasures of life. I'm already dreaming of my next visit!
