Hi 👋🏻 I’m Izzy 💙

It's been such an incredible journey welcoming Izzy into our home. When we first found her, shivering and alone, my heart just melted. Bringing a rescue cat, especially one saved from the harsh winter cold, comes with its own unique set of challenges and immense rewards. I wanted to share some of what we've learned, hoping it helps anyone considering opening their home to a furry friend. Our first priority was making sure Izzy felt safe and warm. For a cat that's been out in the cold, a cozy spot is non-negotiable. We set up a quiet 'sanctuary' for her, a small room with her own food, water, and litter box. It’s crucial not to overwhelm them. We let her explore at her own pace, giving her space to adjust to all the new sights and smells of her new environment. I remember those first few days, she was so timid, a little scared of us humans – completely understandable after what she'd been through. Patience is truly a virtue when you’re helping a rescue cat settle in. Instead of forcing interaction, we'd just sit quietly in the room, letting her get used to our presence. Treats were a huge help! Slowly but surely, her curiosity won out, and she started venturing closer. It's been amazing to witness her growing fondness for humans, especially now that she knows endless treats are involved! Providing plenty of toys, just like the toy carrot or tennis ball she loves, helped her feel more secure and playful. Introducing her to Kiki, our other cat, was another careful process. Kiki has been such a wonderful big sister, making Izzy feel safe right from the start. We did slow introductions, scent swapping first, then supervised visits. Seeing them together now, lounging on the couch or even Kiki encouraging Izzy to look out the window, fills me with joy. It’s clear Kiki has played a big part in showing Izzy 'the ropes' of being an indoor cat. Observing Izzy’s daily routine has been fascinating. From her 8 am explorations to her 11 am naps on the comfy bed, and her excitement when 'the human is home' at 6 pm, every moment tells a story of her transformation. It’s these little signs – the relaxed naps, the playful pounces, the eager meows for food – that show she’s truly thriving and embracing her new life. If you're thinking about adopting a rescue, I can't recommend it enough. The love and gratitude they give back are immeasurable.
