One key lesson I learned is the importance of waiting for clear confirmation before entering a trade. Watching for an engulfing candle to form at the gap gives me confidence that the price will hold this area as support or resistance. Jumping in too early, without this signal, often led to false entries. Another realization was that not every fair value gap is worth trading. Some gaps appear randomly within a price range and don’t carry as much significance. I now focus on gaps that form near critical levels, such as previous swing highs/lows or supply and demand zones, which tend to offer stronger trade setups. Stop loss placement was also a game-changer for me. Initially, I used tight stops inside the gap, which frequently triggered due to normal market fluctuations. Moving my stop beyond the gap allows some breathing room for price action, preventing unnecessary stop outs while still protecting my capital. Using fair value gaps correctly requires patience and discipline, but when combined with other technical tools, they can become one of the most reliable components of a trading strategy. Personally, I save chart screenshots and notes on different FVG setups to refine my approach and better understand market behavior. Hope these insights help you avoid common pitfalls and improve your trading results!
