Chicken Math 😅
Have you ever started with just a few chickens, swearing you'd keep it small, only to find your flock mysteriously multiplying? That, my friends, is 'chicken math' in action! It's not about actual arithmetic; it's the peculiar phenomenon where chicken keepers constantly acquire more birds than they originally intended or even planned for. You might start with a specific number of eggs in your incubator, carefully counting them, but somehow, weeks later, you're looking at a dozen new fluffy faces and wondering how it happened! Why does this happen? Well, it's hard to resist! One minute you're just looking at pictures of adorable baby chicks, and the next you're at the feed store, telling yourself, 'Just this one time, I'll get three more for variety.' Or maybe you're like me, and those fertile eggs just beg to be put in the incubator. You tell yourself you'll only hatch a few, but then you find yourself saying, 'I DON'T KNOW WHY I LIED JUST' to your spouse when they ask about the latest batch of newborns! It's an internal struggle many of us chicken enthusiasts face. It often starts innocently enough. You have an empty brooder, and it just feels... lonely. Or you see a new, rare breed you simply must have to complete your collection. Perhaps you find an incredible deal on hatching eggs, and suddenly your incubator is full again. Suddenly, your carefully planned coop size seems inadequate, and you're drawing up blueprints for an expansion. My own journey with chicken math usually involves seeing all those beautiful eggs I've collected and thinking, 'It would be a shame not to hatch them!' And before you know it, you’re nurturing a new batch of tiny, peeping babies. The truth is, for many of us, chicken math is part of the fun. There's an undeniable joy in watching a flock grow, seeing new personalities emerge, and enjoying the abundance of fresh eggs. It's a passion that tends to snowball, and honestly, who can blame us when baby chicks are so incredibly cute? The satisfaction of seeing a successful hatch, even if it means more mouths to feed, is immense. While it’s easy to get carried away, a little planning can help – sometimes. Consider your space, feed costs, and local regulations before you dive headfirst into another chicken acquisition. However, if you find yourself constantly adding to your flock, know you're not alone. It's a humorous and endearing rite of passage for many backyard chicken keepers. So, next time someone asks how many chickens you have, just smile and say, 'Oh, you know, chicken math!' and they'll likely understand completely.

I just watched this movie the other day. 😅
