Board Games | Two new games I got this week!
I got 2 new board games this week that both happened to be cat themed!
I kickstarted Cat Blues: The Big Gig a while ago, and have been anxiously awaiting it after some distribution/shipping issues, so I was super excited to get it in the mail when I was least expecting it!
Calico has been on my list for a long time, since I love the publisher's other games, Cascadia (one of my all time favorites) and Verdant, but never quite pulled the trigger on buying. My Sister in Law picked it out to surprise me, as a congrats present when I got some good news earlier this week!

Okay, so you know how excited I was about getting 'Calico' and 'Cat Blues: The Big Gig'? Well, let's talk a bit more about why these cat-themed board games are absolute must-haves for any feline-loving gamer! I've been dreaming about these for a while, and now that they're finally here, I can't wait to share my initial thoughts and what makes them so incredibly special. First up, 'Calico'. If you love cozy, strategic puzzles, this one is definitely for you. The game is all about creating the most beautiful quilt for your cats to nap on, and honestly, the art and component quality are just stunning. It's a tile-drafting game where you're carefully placing colorful patches to attract different cats and score points. The gameplay involves pattern-matching, strategic planning, and a satisfying feeling of creation, which I absolutely adore. I'm already envisioning a relaxing evening, maybe with a warm cup of milk (or tea!) and a real cat curled up beside me, trying to perfectly arrange those hexagon tiles to achieve specific patterns. The idea of seeing a sleeping cat on a quilt that I've designed myself? Pure bliss! It's got that perfect blend of simple rules that are easy to learn, but also deep strategy that makes it incredibly re-playable. Plus, it’s from the same publisher as 'Cascadia' and 'Verdant', which are some of my all-time favorites, so I have super high hopes for this one to become a staple. It feels like the kind of game that just warms your heart and provides a gentle mental challenge without ever feeling overwhelming. For those who enjoy a bit of quiet contemplation and visual satisfaction with their games, 'Calico' promises to deliver a truly purr-fect experience. It’s an ideal choice for a calming solo session or a chill gathering with a couple of friends, offering a delightful way to unwind and push harder for those perfect scores. Then there's 'Cat Blues: The Big Gig'. Oh my goodness, the theme alone sold me! It's a bidding card game where you're putting together a band of musical cats. The cartoon cats playing musical instruments are just adorable, and the whole concept sounds like a riot. I'm imagining lively game nights filled with laughter and some friendly rivalry as we try to outbid each other to get the best band members and create the most harmonious (or hilariously chaotic) feline supergroup. This isn't just about winning; it's about the fun journey of building your dream band and enjoying the playful interactions. This one feels like it's going to bring so much energy to our game table, a real push to get those big scores and make a purr-fect performance. It’s definitely a game that encourages a bit of friendly competition and a lot of smiles, making every round exciting. The anticipation of playing this one, especially after the long wait since kickstarting it, is making me practically vibrate with excitement! These two new additions really make me think about how much joy a good board game night brings. Whether you're looking for something calm and strategic like 'Calico', or something energetic and fun like 'Cat Blues', having a theme you love just makes the experience even better. Imagine gathering your friends, maybe some actual cats curled up nearby, and diving into these engaging worlds. It's more than just playing; it’s about creating memories, sharing laughs, and enjoying a moment of pure, unadulterated fun. If you're like me and always on the lookout for games that bring warmth, a bit of playful challenge, and definitely a lot of cat cuteness, you absolutely have to check these out. They're perfect for unwinding and adding a little extra something special to your week, whether you're a seasoned board gamer or just starting your collection! Who knew a bit of cat heat could make game night so much better?
