You learned who to be… before you learned who you

Some people didn’t lose themselves overnight.

They slowly became: easier quieter more agreeable more emotionally aware of everyone else…

because their nervous system learned: “this feels safer.”

So after a while… they stopped asking:

What do I feel? What do I want? What do I need?

Healing can bring grief sometimes.

Not only because of what hurt you — but because of who survival convinced you to become.

And honestly…

that version of you deserves compassion too.

Because you were never “too much.” You just learned it felt safer to become less.

Healing isn’t becoming selfish 🌻 It’s finally making space for the version of you that never felt safe to exist.

comment 🌻 if this resonated

If you want to know where to begin, it’s in my bio.

... Read moreMany people don't realize how deeply their nervous system shapes their personality and behavior, especially when it learns that being 'easy,' 'agreeable,' or 'quiet' feels like the safest way to survive emotionally. From my experience, this often means becoming the helper, the peacemaker, or the emotionally aware one—not because it reflects the true self, but because survival conditioned you to avoid conflict or rejection. This can lead to a painful disconnect from your own feelings, wants, and needs, creating a sense of grief when you start healing. Healing, then, is not about selfishness but about reclaiming the parts of yourself that were sidelined to feel safe. It’s about recognizing that you were never 'too much'; rather, you learned to be less so you could protect yourself. To begin this process, try tuning into your body’s signals and gently asking yourself, 'What do I truly feel? What do I want? What do I need?' This shifts the focus inward and honors your authentic self. It can be helpful to engage in inner child healing practices, which nurture those vulnerable parts that survival tactics silenced. Over time, this creates a new internal environment where your nervous system feels safe enough to support a fuller expression of who you really are. Incorporating mental wellness strategies like mindfulness, breath work, or therapy can also support this journey by calming your nervous system and helping you stay connected when emotions arise. Remember, healing is a gradual and deeply personal process. Allow yourself compassion and patience as you rediscover your identity beyond survival. Embracing your true self is a brave act that opens the door to meaningful self-growth and emotional freedom.
