Justice For Chad Mast

My uncle, Chad Mast, was taken from us far too soon in Ashe County, North Carolina. He died in police custody—a death we believe was preventable and unjust. Yet, despite the pain, the evidence, and the questions we still don’t have answers to, the grand jury chose not to indict.

We are heartbroken. We are angry. But more than anything, we are determined. Chad no longer has a voice—so we will be his voice.

To those who speak cruelly, who judge without knowing the full story, we ask you to pause. Please understand this: Chad was a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend. He was a human being who mattered and was deeply loved. What happened to him could happen to someone you love. No family is immune.

Every hateful comment, every assumption, every time someone tries to paint him as less than human—it cuts deep. We’re grieving, and your words have weight.

Sheriff Howell continues to try to justify Chad’s death by smearing his name and shifting the blame. That is not justice. That is not leadership. That is gaslighting an entire community into silence.

But we will not be silent. We see the truth. And we will not stop until the world sees it too. We are fighting for answers. We are fighting for accountability. We are fighting for Chad.

If you have empathy, if you believe in justice, if you believe every life matters—you will stand with us.
