Finding joy in my long-distance relationship 👩🏻❤️👨🏾
Long-distance is definitely NOT for the faint of heart. But it's the rare little moments where you see the other person in the flesh... the joy and peace of being together after weathering so much time and adversity apart, that make everything worth it.
My fiancé and I only see each other every few months, and we've definitely had our fair share of personal and joint growing pains. We wouldn't have gotten this far without our existing friendship and our trust in the Lord. We cling to the hope that, one day soon, we'll be able to spend the rest of our lives together without interruption 👩🏻🤝👨🏾💕
🤔 Are you in an LDR? Or been in one in the past? How often do you see each other in-person? #letschat

It's true, distance can feel like a heavy weight, often leaving us with that lingering thought: 'distance may keep us apart, but...' What completes that sentence for you? For me and my partner, it's the unwavering belief in our connection and the active steps we take to bridge the physical gap. We've certainly faced our moments of doubt and loneliness, but through it all, we've discovered tangible ways to keep our love thriving. One of the biggest lessons we've learned is the power of consistent, meaningful communication. It's not just about daily texts or quick calls. We make sure to schedule dedicated video call dates, treating them like actual date nights – sometimes even 'dressing up' or cooking the same meal. It creates a sense of shared reality, even when we're miles apart. We also make an effort to share the small, mundane details of our days, truly inviting each other into our separate lives. Sometimes, just knowing they're looking at the same moon I am, feeling the same sunset, helps us feel connected in a poetic way, reminding us that we share a common sky. Beyond scheduled calls, we've found joy in creating shared experiences that transcend location. We'll pick a movie to watch simultaneously, pressing play at the same time and texting reactions throughout. Or we'll embark on a shared hobby, like reading the same book or trying a new recipe from a video call together. These little rituals transform solitary activities into intimate, shared moments, reinforcing our bond and giving us new things to talk about. And then there are the visits. Oh, the visits! Knowing when the next reunion is planned keeps us going. The anticipation builds, and when we finally get to see each other, like those precious moments when our hands meet and clasp, it's pure magic. Every hug, every shared meal, every walk through a city like Los Angeles (where we've had some unforgettable times), becomes a memory to cherish until the next time. These in-person moments are the fuel that keeps our LDR engine running. We also believe in the power of thoughtful gestures. Sending a handwritten letter or a small care package with their favorite coffee or a cozy blanket can make a world of difference. It's a physical reminder that someone is thinking of them, reaching across the distance with love. It's about finding creative ways to say, 'I'm here for you, even if I'm not physically there.' Ultimately, an LDR demands patience, trust, and a strong sense of individual purpose. We support each other's personal growth, knowing that developing as individuals strengthens our partnership. It's about cherishing the present connection while holding onto the beautiful hope for a future where distance is no longer a factor. It’s challenging, yes, but the joy and depth of connection we’ve built make every single mile worth it.
