Finding comfort vs TOO comfortable 🤔

Another longer response to this relationship question from @Lemon8 Wellness 👀 (So many good ones lately!)

In my last relationship (not pictured), I felt like my boyfriend got too comfortable 😒 Sure, he could be his natural self around me, but that looked like...

1) not taking initiative to call or spend time with me,

2) forgetting important dates (dude's bday was literally 10 days before mine, and he constantly forgot 🤡),

3) not caring about his appearance anymore,

4) not taking me seriously when I made suggestions to improve his life 🫥

At a certain point, I felt like he was taking me and our relationship for granted. He felt so comfortable around me, but I felt like I couldn't find any comfort in him. I couldn't be myself around him, and after 5 years, I couldn't stand it anymore.

Fast-forward to today: My fiancé is the person who knows me best, and I'm the one who knows him best, too. We're bestest friends who laugh together, cry together, and are vulnerable together. We go to each other first when we're excited about something or feeling down. And we can be really REAL with each other 💜 We realize how precious our relationship is, and we're not just gonna let that go!! 👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏾

Friends— There's nothing wrong in being in a comfortable relationship!! You need to be able to take comfort in each other! But the danger is when one person gets toooo comfortable and can't even PRETEND to put effort into the relationship. If you're in a situation like that, please talk to your partner ASAP. Your person needs to match your effort, and if he isn't willing to, then it might be time to seriously reevaluate your relationship.

Did this make sense? Are you in a comforting relationship, or are you/your partner too comfortable? #letschat in the comments!

XO, Cathy 💛

... Read moreComfort in a relationship is essential, but there’s a risk when one partner becomes too comfortable, leading to complacency. This situation can manifest in various ways, such as neglecting important occasions, lack of effort in appearances, or dismissing each other’s feedback. Emotional security is key in any romance, and genuine comfort allows both partners to be open, vulnerable, and connected. When both partners actively engage in nurturing the relationship, it strengthens their bond. Remember, it’s important to maintain mutual effort; this ensures each person feels valued and appreciated. If you recognize signs of one-sided comfort in your relationship, it's crucial to communicate openly with your partner. Discuss the need for balance and effort. Encourage regular 'check-ins' to ensure both members are invested in each other’s happiness. This promotes emotional growth and a deeper connection. By fostering a supportive environment, you help prevent stagnation, ensuring your relationship remains vibrant and fulfilling.
