The secret to commitment? Pleasing God 🙏🩷

As we’ve been preparing for marriage, one of the conundrums my partner and I have wrestled with is this: “We love each other now, but how will we know we’ll STILL love each other after 5 years of marriage? 10 years? 20?”

This is exactly why people are scared of commitment. And the truth is…we can NEVER know exactly how we’ll feel about the other person in the future 😰 But check out this statement I read in my premarital counseling:

“That’s what we call a paradox…. First, I don’t know what will please me. And especially, I don’t know what’ll please me ten years from now. There’s nobody in the world that knows what’ll please them ten years from now, or five years from now.

“The other fact is that God does. God has made me in a certain way, and if He intends for me to be married, He’s made a companion – just as He made Eve for Adam. And that person will be the one. The one that will please Him the best, will be the one that in the end, will please me the best.”

If we believe God loves us and desires our good, we should also believe that by pleasing HIM, we ourselves will be satisfied! He PROMISED to satisfy the desires of our hearts — the wholesome desires He put there to begin with! Even as we learn, grow and change over time, we will still be happy with each other when we both aim to honor God. Remember: God is working ALL things for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

📖 “Always be trying to find out what best pleases the Lord.” Ephesians 5:10 TCNT

📖 “Delight thyself also in the LORD; And He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭37‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

📖 “When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

While our sinful human nature gets in the way of doing the things that please God, He will give you and your loved one the power to overcome! And if you're currently in a relationship where your love for each other is dwindling, please try putting God first! Put Him to the test, for He loves you both, and He is always faithful!! 🙏

XOXO, Cathy 💛

... Read moreYou know, when we talk about 'love meaning,' it's so much more than just that initial spark or butterflies in your stomach. My journey, especially as I prepared for marriage, really opened my eyes to this. We all ask ourselves, 'Will we always love each other?' It's a valid fear, wondering if the person who makes your heart race today will still be the one you want to wake up next to, say, ten years from now. This very question is a paradox that used to keep me up at night. I used to think love was about finding someone who perfectly pleased *me*. But then I realized something profound, echoing what I learned in premarital counseling: 'I don't know what will please me in the long run.' How can I, when I'm constantly changing and growing? This is where the true, enduring meaning of love comes into play, especially when you bring God into the picture. For me, understanding 'amor' – that deep, foundational love – shifted when I started focusing on something bigger than myself. It's not just about my happiness, but about striving to please the Lord. This might sound counterintuitive at first, but it’s actually the most freeing and satisfying path to lasting connection. When both partners are committed to honoring God, He works in and through them. He promises to satisfy the desires of thine heart – those wholesome desires He planted there. This isn't just about personal gain; it's about building a relationship on a rock-solid foundation that can withstand life's storms. Think about it: when you're trying to please the Lord, you naturally embody qualities like patience, kindness, forgiveness, and selfless service. These aren't just nice traits; they are the very fabric of unconditional love. These actions aren't always easy, especially when our human nature gets in the way, but they are what truly make love enduring. It's about looking at your partner through God's eyes, seeing them as a precious gift, and striving to treat them as such, even when they're imperfect (and you are too!). This perspective has been a game-changer. It helps me navigate disagreements, practice empathy, and remember that our union is a reflection of a higher purpose. It reassures me that even if my feelings fluctuate, the commitment rooted in our faith won't. If you're feeling your love for each other dwindling, I truly believe that putting God first can reignite that spark and transform your relationship into something stronger, more resilient, and deeply fulfilling. It’s not a quick fix, but a lifelong journey of growing closer to God, which in turn brings you closer to each other. That’s the real secret to an enduring 'amor' – a love that truly means forever.
