40 days until forever 🤍💍

I can't believe my fiancé and I only have 40 days to go! 👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏾‍♂️

If you know your Bible, you know that *40* is a very interesting symbolic number:

➡️ 40 days and nights of rain during the Flood (Genesis 7:4)

➡️ 40 years for the Israelites to wander in the wilderness (Exodus 16:35)

➡️ 40 days for the spies in Canaan (Numbers 13:25)

➡️ 40 days for Nineveh to repent (Jonah 3:4)

➡️ 40 days for Jesus to fast in the wilderness to prepare for His ministry

40 is often associated with testing, trials and judgment. And with 40 days to go until my wedding, I can't help but feel particularly tested as well. My fiancé and I are planning and paying for a wedding practically all on our own. We're trying to wrap up premarital counseling (there's quite a bit of homework to be done). We're wrestling with different insecurities.... We're really building this plane as it's about to take off! 😵‍💫🫨

But through it all, we're reminded that God is good. We've received so much love and encouragement from all over the world (including you!). And we know that God is preparing us for something far grander than we can imagine! ...If we can just get through these next 40 days 😬🙏

📖 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed. We are perplexed, but not in despair. Persecuted, but not forsaken. Cast down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Please keep us in your prayers! Love, Cathy (+Jordan) 🤍

... Read moreIt’s fascinating how often the number '40' appears throughout history and spirituality, marking periods of significant change, challenge, or preparation. Just like in the Bible, where 40 days or years often symbolized a time of testing or transformation, many of us encounter our own '40-day' periods in life—intense seasons leading up to something momentous. Whether it’s 40 days before a big exam, a new job, or, like many, counting down to a wedding, these times can feel particularly charged with emotions and tasks. I’ve personally experienced how these countdowns can bring both immense joy and unexpected stress. The feeling of 'building this plane as it’s about to take off' is so real! It's a period where every decision feels magnified, and insecurities can surface. You might be navigating complex planning, balancing budgets, or engaging in deep conversations during premarital counseling. It’s during these moments that finding a source of strength and inspiration becomes crucial. One powerful reflection that often guides me during such times is the idea of trusting the process. Instead of being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things to do, breaking it down into manageable steps can make a huge difference. Each day, even a small milestone achieved, contributes to the larger goal. Think of it as a journey, not a race. Another source of immense comfort and strength comes from leaning on your support system. Whether it’s friends, family, or a faith community, having people who can offer encouragement and prayer can lighten the load. Just seeing a loving couple embrace, perhaps in a quiet moment captured in a black and white photo, reminds us of the power of connection and shared journey. It’s a testament to the fact that you’re not alone, even when the path feels arduous. For those facing their own '40-day' challenges, consider these practical thoughts: Embrace the learning: Every challenge is an opportunity to grow. What lessons are you learning about yourself, your partner, or your resilience during this time? Practice gratitude: Even amidst stress, pause to appreciate the good things. This simple act can shift your perspective and infuse the journey with more joy. Prioritize self-care: It’s easy to neglect your well-being when a deadline looms. Make sure to schedule moments for rest, reflection, and activities that recharge you. Communicate openly: With your partner, your team, or your loved ones. Honest conversations can prevent misunderstandings and build stronger bonds, much like the deep discussions happening in premarital counseling. Ultimately, these '40-day' periods, though tough, are often preparatory. They refine us, strengthen our resolve, and prepare us for the 'forever' that lies ahead. It’s a time to remember that even when troubled on every side, we are not distressed; perplexed, but not in despair. Holding onto faith and the love surrounding you can transform these challenging days into a beautiful, meaningful chapter of your life.
