Claude Cowork: What the tutorials skip.

Everyone’s making tutorials about Claude, but no one’s mentioning the risks or the steps you can take to protect yourself.

Also Claude does have safety tools builtin like asking for permission, etc. this is what I do in addition to the defaults.

Read moreFrom my experience working with Claude AI coworking tools, it’s clear that while the platform offers useful built-in safety features, users must take extra precautions to safeguard their privacy and data security. One major risk I’ve noticed is the tendency for some tutorials to overlook the dangers of connecting Claude to random third-party connectors or downloading unverified extensions promising to "improve" Claude’s functionality. These can sometimes be scams designed to collect your personal data or install harmful software. To mitigate these risks, I always recommend using only the official connectors provided by Claude or its trusted partners, such as Anthropic. If a connector isn't listed in the official directory, consider it a red flag and avoid it. Another practical strategy is to compartmentalize your workspace: use a secondary browser dedicated solely to Claude sessions, opening only necessary tabs and closing everything else. This limits the exposure of your browsing data and reduces the chance of accidentally sharing sensitive information. In addition, never link your primary email account or any critical personal accounts to Claude, as it essentially acts like handing your digital keys to a stranger. Always assume conversations and data shared with AI models are not private, and avoid sharing sensitive details unnecessarily. Lastly, layering these safety practices over the AI’s default permission requests and safeguards significantly boosts your online safety. While Claude may ask for permissions by default, being proactive in managing and restricting access will keep your projects and personal information more secure. In summary, safe use of Claude AI coworking tools hinges on awareness and deliberate protective actions. By sticking to officially supported connectors, isolating your AI work environment, and guarding your personal data, you can enjoy the benefits of collaborative AI without compromising your security or privacy.
