Sometimes love hurts. I’ve suffered at the hands of someone who claimed to care for me, and I have the scars to prove it. I’m getting used to people’s stares and whispers. Their words are hurtful, but something makes me want to survive. I can’t give up. I won’t let him destroy me.

My only chance for protection comes by taking a job with the rumored local mafia boss. He’s suffered a tragedy of his own, and needs someone to care for his infant son. The child won’t mind my scars, and it gives me a place to hide.

I shouldn’t feel safe here, especially when I witness things I’m not meant to see.

But my new boss and his two closest employees see me in a way I never thought possible and refuse to let me hide in the shadows. How could they want a monster like me?

Accepting my scars and learning to love myself may be the hardest challenge I've faced, but if I could do this, not just for them, but for myself, we could all get the happy ending we deserve.
