Hey everyone! I've been reflecting a lot lately on what it truly means to be a 'steward of God,' and honestly, it's been such a transformative journey. It’s more than just managing resources; it’s about understanding our purpose and how we can truly glorify God in every aspect of our lives. I wanted to share some of my thoughts and what I've learned from the Bible about this incredible calling. First off, let's unpack 'what is a steward in the Bible' and its 'biblical meaning.' Essentially, a steward is someone entrusted with managing another's property or affairs. In God's kingdom, this means we are managers, not owners, of everything He has given us – our time, talents, resources, relationships, and even our bodies. It’s a profound responsibility, recognizing that everything we have is a gift. The concept of being a 'good steward of God' isn't about being perfect, but about being faithful and intentional with what we've been given. So, what are some 'qualities of a good stewardship' that I've been striving for? Based on scripture and personal experience, here are a few characteristics that truly stand out: Faithfulness: This is perhaps the most crucial. Are we trustworthy with the small things God has entrusted us with? Being faithful means consistently honoring God in our choices, even when no one else is watching. Wisdom: The Scripture reminds me to have 'words be full of God's wisdom.' This isn't just about knowledge, but about applying God's truth to our daily decisions. It's seeking His guidance in how we use our time, spend our money, and interact with others. It's about 'shining wisdom' in practical ways. Generosity: A good steward understands that blessings are meant to be shared. The message I've taken to heart emphasizes, 'be a blessing to someone.' This means using our resources to support others, give to those in need, and contribute to God’s work. It’s a joyful giving, not out of obligation, but out of a grateful heart. Diligence & Responsibility: We're called to work hard and manage our responsibilities well. Galatians 6:10 NIV, which is such a powerful verse, reminds us, 'Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.' This encourages perseverance in our efforts to serve God and others. Humility: Recognizing that all we have comes from God keeps us humble. It prevents us from taking credit for our blessings and instead allows us to point back to the Giver. This mindset helps us to truly let our 'deeds glorify God.' Now, 'how to be a steward of God' in action, especially when it comes to 'shining your God-given light'? Matthew 5:16 NIV beautifully states, 'In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.' For me, this means being intentional about my words and actions. It means striving to be the 'reason someone will be drawn to God's kingdom' by living out my faith transparently and lovingly. Whether it’s through a kind word, an act of service, or simply living with integrity, every moment is an opportunity to 'shine your God-given light.' It's an ongoing journey, but embracing these 'characteristics of stewardship' has truly enriched my life. Each day, I try to remember that I'm called to 'do good to all people,' especially within the family of believers, as Galatians 6:10 also suggests. It's about living a life that reflects God's love and wisdom, and being a blessing wherever I go.
