Changing it up
It all depends on your goal. This is mine. If I can motivate you to be active then my heart is happy! #active #workout #motivate #motivation #cortisol
Hey everyone! Following up on my last post about staying active and keeping those cortisol levels balanced, I wanted to dive a little deeper into how I actually make it happen. It's not just about hitting the gym hard every day; it's about a holistic approach that truly makes a difference in how I feel. First off, let's talk about moderate intensity workouts. For me, this has been a game-changer. I used to think 'more is better,' but that often left me feeling drained and stressed, which ironically, can spike cortisol. Now, I aim for workouts where I can still hold a conversation, but I'm definitely breathing heavier. Think brisk walking, light jogging, cycling at a comfortable pace, or even a flowing yoga session. It's about consistency and enjoying the movement, not punishing your body. My heart rate stays in a zone where I feel energized afterward, rather than completely wiped out. This approach has helped me build sustainable habits without burning out. Another crucial point, which I learned the hard way, is avoiding 'overtraining.' It's so easy to get caught up in the grind, especially when you're motivated. But pushing your body too much without adequate recovery can actually increase stress hormones like cortisol. How do I avoid it? I listen to my body. If I'm feeling unusually tired, irritable, or my performance is consistently dropping, those are red flags. I make sure to incorporate rest days, vary my workouts, and sometimes, a full deload week is exactly what I need. It's about respecting your body's limits and understanding that recovery is just as important as the workout itself. For instance, I might swap a strength session for a gentle walk or some stretching if I feel fatigued. And we can't forget the power of hydration & sleep. Honestly, these two are non-negotiables for managing cortisol. I make a conscious effort to hydrate throughout the day, not just during my workouts. Keeping a water bottle handy is key! Dehydration can stress your system, so plenty of water supports all your bodily functions, including hormone regulation. As for sleep, I aim for 7-8 hours consistently. I've noticed a huge difference in my energy levels, mood, and even my hunger cues when I prioritize sleep. Creating a relaxing bedtime routine – turning off screens, reading a book, or taking a warm bath – has been incredibly helpful for me to wind down and get quality rest. This really helps keep my cortisol levels low, especially in the mornings. Ultimately, my goal is to keep cortisol levels low by finding a balanced approach to fitness. It’s not just about the physical transformation, but the mental and emotional well-being that comes with it. When I manage my workouts, hydration, and sleep effectively, I feel more resilient, less stressed, and genuinely happier. I hope these insights from my journey help you find your own balanced path to wellness!
