"Anwar" demanded the immediate release of "Maduro" and his wife, pointing out that the United States violated international law.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim issued a statement expressing serious concern at the case in which the U.S. military took custody of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, stating it was a violation of sovereignty and undermining the world order.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia revealed that he had been monitoring the situation in Venezuela with great concern, pointing out that the U.S. military operation had an "irregular" scope and nature that clearly violated international law and unlawfully used force against a sovereign state.
Mr. Anwar called for the release of President Nicholas Maduro and his wife without delay, reiterating that for whatever reason, the use of external force to eliminate the head of government in office would create a "dangerous norm" (Dangerous precedent) that would undermine restrictions on interstate power and destroy the legal framework underlying the world order.
"The Venezuelan people should determine their political future. History has shown that a sudden change in leadership with external force will cause more harm than good results, especially in a country that is traumatized by protracted economic problems and heavy social tensions."
The Prime Minister of Malaysia reiterated its position that Malaysia considers respect for international law and sovereignty to be the highest priority for peaceful relations between states; constructive interaction, dialogue and reduction of tensions remain the most reliable path to an outcome that will help protect civilians and open the way for the Venezuelan people to pursue their legitimate wishes without further harm.
