U.S. President Donald Trump gave a telephone interview on Fox News' "Fox & Friends," stating, "We're going to take care of the Straits, and we're going to take care of it ourselves. We're going to become the Guardians of the Straits, or we're going to be the" Guardians of the Straits, "and of course we should be compensated for this duty."

The U.S. leader added, "We're going to be on security watch, and we're going to have to earn a lot of money to protect it. Because the countries that take this route are rich, they're on our side, so we can't expect us to do this for free."

Trump's announcement came after "Iran" announced another closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, which had a spike in energy prices and created concern for potential global inflation.

Trump also made a strong move to take decisive action against Iran, claiming that the United States had previously made a deal with Iran, but that Iran was in violation of the deal.
