The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the progress of the canned fish product inspection case. It later received complaints from the public. The FDA, in conjunction with the Provincial Public Health Agency (S.C.), inspected the production site and collected samples of the product, submitted a proof of fish species at the Fisheries Department, an expert body for fish species detection.

The results showed that it was the product used.

The fish type does not meet with FDA permission. The legal prosecution is now submitted.

Female pharmacist Subhadra Merit Supplement, secretary of the Food and Drug Administration, revealed that through the collection of three canned fish samples found at the production site, the results of a fish species test from the Fisheries Goods Quality Inspection Division, the Fisheries Department, showed that

Item 1 is canned fish. Date of manufacture 24042026. Expiration date 24042029. Detected as "tilapia."

Item 2 is canned fish. Date of production 27042026. Expiration date 27042029. Detected as "tilapia."

Item 3 is canned fish, the label shows that it is mackerel in ketchup (brand, bonus), production date 20012026, expiration date 20012029, detected as "sardine."

The FDA secretary went on to say that the results of the test confirmed that the three products did not match the fish as registered with the FDA, which was involved in the production of counterfeit food under the 1979 Food Act. The Samut Provincial Public Health Agency has now complained to investigators at Bang Torad Police Station for the prosecution of Sriyungam Foods Limited in Samut Province on the following charges:

1) Produce fake food, punishable by 6 months to 10 years imprisonment and a fine ranging from 5,000 to 100,000 baht.

2) The label is not displayed correctly. It is punishable by a fine not exceeding 30,000 baht.

3) The place of food production does not meet the good hygiene criteria for food production (GMP), punishable by a fine not exceeding 10,000 baht.

The FDA Secretary-General said at the end that the FDA reiterates that the product description on food labels must match the authorized products to protect consumers from accurate information and ensure strict compliance with the law. The FDA will continue to monitor and implement laws against offenders to build confidence in the standards and transparency of food products sold in Thailand.
