gao gao matcha & hojicha in the east 💃🏻

as someone who studies in the east and lives here 5/7 days of the week… we are SOOO short of good matcha 🥲 so i was exhilarated when i found this spot a couple months ago!!! went back today to see if the drinks were as good as i remember, and YUP. 🤏🏼🤏🏼🤏🏼

wah. ok let me make this simple for y’all:

✓ full-bodied & umami

✓ balanced flavour

✓ good portion size

✓ accepts CDC/SG60 vouchers

what more do you need sia. only minor complaint i have is that the honey and strawberry were a touch too sweet, but i’m personally a 0/25% sugar drinker so it’s prob different for everyone.

the honey matcha was so refreshing (the barista was right) in the heat, and the matcha itself wasn’t bitter or astringent—everything came together so smoothly. same goes for the hojicha, and you can taste chocolate notes in the dark roast… DELECTABLE with their choice of strawberry.

small shop but very cozy, friendly baristas, accessible location (short walk from tanah merah mrt / bus stop Blk 55)! they have coffee too and currently run a christmas season menu

Since it’s just a short walk from Tanah Merah MRT and bus stops, it’s super accessible for daily visits. One thing I’ve noticed is their attention to quality and flavor balance — the matcha isn’t bitter or astringent, and the hojicha carries subtle chocolate notes enhanced by their choice of strawberry. While I found the sweetness a bit high due to my personal preference for less sugar, they do accept CDC/SG60 vouchers, making it easier to enjoy these delicious drinks without hurting your wallet. Additionally, the shop serves coffee and other delightful lattes, giving you plenty of options beyond matcha and hojicha. If you’re exploring matcha and hojicha cafes in the East, Koffee Kollective is definitely a must-try — I wish I lived next door to enjoy these quality drinks more often!
