Do you prefer audio or physical books?

Personally, I prefer physical books because it feels as though I’m able to create a better mental image of the characters and their surroundings when I’m actually reading the words on the page! I have a tendency to stop paying attention when listening to an audiobook because I’ll start doing something else and just tune it out. I also just love holding a book in my hand and flipping through the pages🤭

I started reading First-Time Caller and then got busy so I tried the audiobook while I was working and instantly hated it because the people speaking didn’t sound anything like I’d imagined the characters would. However, I’ve been watching The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video so I decided to try the audiobook with Lola Tung’s narration and I really like it!! I think it’s because I already know what the scenes look like based on the show, and the book is read in her voice so it’s not jarring to hear her speak!

What’re your reading preferences? Let me know down below! ⬇️

... Read moreIt's true, there's just something magical about holding a physical book. Beyond just creating mental images, I find myself drawn to the tactile experience. The weight of the book in my hands, the scent of the pages, and the satisfying sound of turning them – it all adds to the immersion. I love being able to dog-ear pages, highlight my favorite quotes, or even just admire the cover art on my shelf. For me, a physical copy feels like a cherished object, a piece of art I get to live with. This was definitely the case when I tried to dive into B.K. Borison's 'First-Time Caller.' I needed that tangible connection to truly get lost in the story and the characters. But then there are those rare instances, those 'times' when an audiobook just clicks. Like with Jenny Han's 'We'll Always Have Summer' (from 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' series), narrated by Lola Tung. Seriously, her voice brought the characters to life in a way I didn't expect! It made me realize that sometimes, a familiar voice or a story I already know visually can bridge that gap between listening and truly experiencing. It's like having a trusted friend read you a bedtime story. When you're following a beloved series, whether it's the first book or you're deep into the journey like anticipating what happens in a later 'summer' chapter, the right narration can make all the difference. It's not always about the specific chapter, but the overall feeling of being back with characters you love. I think the key for me is knowing when to choose which format. If it's a new world, complex characters, or something I want to savor and revisit, a physical copy is my go-to. I can slow down, re-read passages, and really let the details sink in. But for revisiting a beloved story, or when I'm multitasking (and the narrator is just *perfect*), audiobooks can be a wonderful companion. It’s all about finding what works for you in that moment. What are your go-to situations for each format?

It honestly depends. I love sitting sure my kindle and a cup of coffee every morning but like be able to get things done around the house while listening to my audiobook! Physical copy do seem like more of chore to read sometimes since being spoiled with my kindle🥰

Physical books, and that goes for e-readers too. I spend my days glued to my phone or working on a computer and feel extra groggy after spending hour reading off of another screen. I find myself not paying good attention to audio books and it makes me mad when a VA will try to alter their voice to read for the opposite gender. Super weird sound and feels fake
