DAY IN MY LIFE AS A COLLEGE ATHLETE🍋✨🫶
Being a college athlete is a truly unique journey, and it's so much more than just game day! I often get asked what a typical 'day in the life' looks like, and honestly, it’s a constant balancing act. My days usually kick off bright and early with intense lifts – sometimes even before the sun is fully up. These aren't just casual workouts; they're structured strength and conditioning sessions designed to push us to our limits. I remember one particularly grueling running test where I actually fell and nearly hit my fat head hard enough to get a concussion! It’s a stark reminder of the physical toll our sport takes, but also how resilient we become. After training, it's a quick scramble to get ready for classes. Academic success is just as crucial as athletic performance, so managing time between lectures, assignments, and practice is an art form. Lunch is often a grab-and-go affair; sometimes it's healthy, other times it's a quick fix like fries and tacos (we all need a treat now and then!). The afternoons are usually filled with more practice, team meetings, or recovery sessions. I’ve spent my fair share of time in the sauna trying to relax my muscles, though sometimes I just feel like I'm 'not doing well' and can't wait for it to be over! Even mundane tasks like doing laundry or cleaning my room become mini-victories in a packed schedule. Evenings bring another set of responsibilities. Study hall is a non-negotiable part of our schedule, ensuring we dedicate enough time to academics. It’s where I tackle homework, prepare for exams, and try to stay on top of everything. After that, it's usually dinner – a burger and more fries sometimes hit the spot after a long day – and then back to my dorm. Trying on a new outfit that ends up looking 'ugly on me' might seem minor, but those small personal moments are part of the daily grind too! Beyond the structured routine, there are so many benefits of being a student athlete. You build an incredible bond with your teammates, forming a second family that understands the unique pressures you face. The discipline and time management skills you develop are invaluable, not just for college but for life beyond. Plus, there’s the sheer joy of competing and representing your school. To manage it all, remember to prioritize recovery and self-care. Those little moments with an eye mask and gel things for relaxation, or sipping a protein latte to refuel, make a huge difference. Don't forget your headphones for some focused study time or just to chill out. It’s tough, it’s demanding, but it's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything. Even with the occasional bumps and bruises, it’s a journey of growth, resilience, and unforgettable memories.
