Please go to the very end! 💚 Serving in Americorps has impacted my life in many ways. Being a tutor helped me to find my path in education and realize what field of work i actually enjoy. I’m going on to my 3rd year serving and I am not going to college to be a school counselor 🩷I live the education field. I would rather work with little humans than for complaining adults any day!! #ratingjobs #lemon8challenge #education#teaching#americorps
... Read moreWow, reflecting on my four incredible years as a full-time elementary school tutor, especially with AmeriCorps, brings back so many vivid memories! It wasn't just a job; it was truly a journey of self-discovery and finding my profound passion for education. Many of you might be curious about what it's really like to immerse yourself in this field, perhaps even relocating or serving in a different state – and let me tell you, every moment was rewarding and transformative, laying the groundwork for my future.
My days were incredibly dynamic, filled with the joyful chaos and profound learning that comes with working with these amazing 'little humans.' As part of the 'Reading Math Corps,' I had the distinct privilege of helping students build fundamental skills, witnessing their eyes light up with understanding. Having my own classroom space, as seen in some of my photos, allowed for immense creative freedom, letting me tailor lessons and activities to truly engage the kids. It wasn't always easy – there were definitely challenges in classroom management and adapting to diverse learning styles – but seeing their consistent progress under my guidance was incredibly fulfilling. Becoming 'MRS. NAVARRETE' to so many bright young minds, even without a formal teaching degree initially, was a huge source of pride and confirmation that I was exactly where I needed to be. This hands-on, intensive experience has been absolutely invaluable, providing a real-world 'biography' of my capabilities.
Beyond the daily tutoring, AmeriCorps truly fostered an unparalleled sense of community. My coworkers quickly became like a second family; we supported each other through challenging days and celebrated every small victory. I cherished our themed gatherings, like that fun Halloween 2025 setup, complete with our very own classroom coffee bar – those little touches made our workspace feel so special and collaborative. This camaraderie extended to the wider community, too. We enthusiastically participated in countless school events, from the vibrant Color Run 2025 to organizing exciting field trips, such as our memorable visit to the Fresno Fair 2025, creating lasting, joyful memories for the children. But service wasn't confined to the classroom. I also embraced opportunities like volunteering at food banks during Thanksgiving 2025, sorting canned goods as an 'OFFICE VOLUNTEER,' connecting with the broader community. Even planting small native plants at a CA Corps meet-up in Fresno, CA 2025, taught me different things about environmental stewardship and collective effort.
Being a tutor allowed me to be a powerful voice for kids, advocating for their needs and celebrating their achievements. It was truly an honor to even meet an Assemblyman of CA, discussing our work and its impact firsthand. This entire four-year journey has profoundly shaped my understanding of the education system and my own capabilities. I gained so much practical experience in education, solidifying my belief that this is exactly where I belong. It's this deep connection with children and the realization of how much I enjoy guiding them that has inspired me to take the significant next step: pursuing a degree to become a school counselor. It feels like a natural and exciting progression, building on the incredible foundation AmeriCorps provided. If you’re considering a path in education, especially hands-on service in a new environment, I wholeheartedly recommend a full-time tutoring role. It truly opens up a world of possibilities and helps you discover your true calling, just as it did for me.
